  • I got towed once for 100 miles - that saved money on fuel. technically that was close to another vehicle!

BUT, chastising anyone for there spelling

In this context it should be 'their' spelling.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
  • Mythbusters covered this one. They set up an experiment in a controlled environment, driving at ever decreasing distances behind a lorry until eventually they were a foot from its bumper. As I recall, you had to get within a yard or so to see any real difference, but then the saving was substantial. So, assuming you can react and brake within 0.000001 of a second, seems a perfectly sensible suggestion...

Do you get like a drag effect from the other vehicle and save on diesel?

I tried this the other day , but the guy in front kept breaking for no reason which made it difficult to stay close.

Definately, after the accident you will get towed home, saving loads of money on a long journey.
  • Maybe we could set up a practical demonstration ....... i've got a 12tonner at work,so that bits sorted .... all we need is the Todmeister in a suitable [STRIKE]coffin[/STRIKE] err car and away we go ......

I read a story about some Austrian guy that does economical test driving for some of the big manufacturers, he has said that if you sit behind an HGV say(if I remember rightly 30-50m) it pulls you along, however, even this guy didn't think it was a good idea, and not safe in the slightest.
However, when has any sensible discussion on a forum ever stopped the raving nutters on the road, fog lights on in daylight/dusk/night time with no fog, overtaking on corners, going across solid white lines, etc etc.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
