Leaving bank when I still owe them money

Santander - worst bank ever for customer service, you'd be an idiot to move to them from HSBC. You will not be able to close your HSBC account until you have paid off your overdraft in full, also, letting your bank know that you are going on holiday does not mean that your card won't be blocked whilst you are away. If that was possible, then the whole fraud detection system would be a waste of time. The only time it may help to know where you are is if the bank can't get hold of you to carry out the security check. Then, depending on the type of spending and the amounts, a decision may be made without speaking to you but this rarely happens where i work. It's too risky to remove the security marker from a card, especially where foreign ATM withdrawals are concerned.0

Being overdrawn over your limit with HSBC...are they on the phone every fifteen minutes? They absolutely hounded me a couple of years ago, I'd tell them the situation and they'd call back about an hour later...somebody else, have to explain again...nearly drove me to insanity.
You may find the below article an interesting read, it's not about HSBC, however it relates to "persistent" debt collection methods:-
