Phones 4U Upgrade Mistake?
Back in November I went into Phones4U shop to get a new phone upgrade, after spending an hour with sales person sorting out what phone I wanted and deal etc I finally settled on a Galaxy S and stay on the same contract but with a decent discount, making it about £27 a month with Orange and the phone free if I took out insurnace. I was also given £100 for my old phone (fairly new Xperia X10) and everything seemed fine.
A month later and I got my new bill and was surprised to see that bill was £37 and none of the discount I was promised had been applied. I then (week before Xmas) proceeded to look at my account on Orange and noticed that my contract date was due to expire in January. So I rang orange to confirm this was the case and they said it was and went on to offer me a free desire hd and £25 month contract (gave me more minutes than one from phones4u).
I thought that maybe I misunderstood the phones 4u deal and when I checked paperwork it said handset only upgrade. At this point I came to the conclusion that I really had only swapped phones at phone4u and was still eligible to upgrade contract so rang Orange back and got the desire hd and cheaper contract.
Yesterday I got a call from phones4u asking me to return the Galaxy S as I'm not entitled to it . Whilst I'm not overly bothered about this I was just wondering where i stand legally, do I have to return the phone or can I keep it? I do realise there must have been some glitch in the system to allow me to get another phone but if I had not spotted it i would probably be still paying the higher line rental and end up in a long drawn out argument with phones4u which I would lose in the end because what was said in the shop is not written down anywhere?
Many thanks for any advice
