Wow, what a surprise. A 'reality' programme, where the reality was staged.
So one week these Baggage or Storage bidders (ALWAYS the same core group) are at auctions in California, the next it's Vegas, the next is NY State .... and they make a profit? With all that travelling? C'mon.....
They get paid by the TV company, so maybe that's where it becomes profitable0 -

Plus, I would have thought they would do a few days in one place, then move on to the next. You can't tell me they have just 4 auctions in one day!
But then just because one is staged, doesn't mean they all are. American TV is almost always shot in the reality sort of way because that's how American's like it.
Take a look at anything Gordon Ramsay is in and you'll see it's all over dramatic.0 -
I had some info from someone I know as a friend of a friend who attended a Storage Wars Texas auction. They take the bids as at a normal auction, see who wins and then film the bidding again with a few substitutes. There's been a court case (some still ongoing) in the US with Dave Hester of Storage Wars concerning, amongst other things, that the producers planted stuff that could be found.
That said the person who resurrected this thread was talking about a UK programme that was on a while ago, where most of the buyers lost money. I'm not sure UK audiences would be that enthusiastic about people earning fortunes every time they spent £100, we're much more in favour of losers, that's what made this country great;).0 -
