If you need your home computer to be fixed don't go to PC World's repair centre, a new report has warned.

Great place to go for a laugh though. Think of a technical question / problem....ask at the desk and watch them get all confused. Great fun.

  • An article in the Daily Mail today is also telling us abut the report Which? have done.

We have photocopied and will show all our customers, we thrive on word of mouth and I dont know what people do if they dont have a good local pc repair shop. They must all go pc world !

I see Dixons are planning a new service, the TechGuys, aiming at 16,000 home visits a week.

    http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,1864550,00.html

Then again, as Dixons also owns PC World, I won't be calling the TechGuys until they have a much better reputation than the numpties in the stores.

Yes they do, absoloutly. Hubby isnt holding out much hope for this new Dixons set up. You get knowledge from experiance and employing young lads out of college or uni you just wont get the experience. Sometimes I am flabbergasted at what hubby knows and the level of advice he gives to customers, I'm like "how on earth do you know that?" If he doesnt know how to fix something he doesnt give up until he can !

Why do they always lie and try to cover their tracks.

    From that link.

A PC World spokeswoman said the Which? report was not representative of the level of service and expertise offered by the chain.LIES

"PC World's skilled engineers have fixed more than two million PC problems for customers in the last year, and in nine of 10 PC repairs there was no requirement to fit a spare part," she said.LAUGHABLE

She says the Which? visits preceeded "an extensive overhaul of our national support operation, including our services for customers in-store".WHAT OVERHAUL

"We'd like to stress that our pricing for all services is transparent, and we always discuss the potential cost with customers prior to carrying out any installation or repair service. In many, if not most cases, the actual cost is considerably lower than the initial estimate." NO ITS ALWAYS DEARER

All of the above is hogwash PC World are tripe and should be closed down.

My cousin tried to get a job there as a shelf stacker the other week but got turned down because he had no technical experiance. I thought he would fit right in :rotfl:

A trip to PCW used to be fun, I would wrap the sales people up so tightly they would believe anything I told them.

I enjoyed going in and asking for advice and seeing what the could come up with asking if I could write DVD's with a CD writer and how long it would take rather than knowing that it wouldn't I was told it would and take 30 minutes back in the day of 4x writers btw. advice on games etc they just didn't have a clue, you can do the same in the PC section at Dixon's and Curry's they have no idea and they are still convinced fast processors and loads of memory are all that a PC needs to perform quickly.

and if people are still taking PC's to PCW after the Gary Glitter thing they need their heads testing. what GG did is disgusting but going through the guys files etc isn't what he took the PC in for.
  • I never realised they even had a bad reputation and was quite impressed with the advice given when purchasing a router/modem last week...Not only did they sell me a netgear that had an adapter with it already...he said I needed one for each computer..therefore he picked out a belkin adapter also....it took me a while to realise I only needed the ONE, being a complete router notice....Not impressed either now especially as I could have bought the same one cheaper elsewhere aswell.
