  • Lets not get confused, there is a world of difference between people who start a business and through their best efforts fail, and someone who is irresponsible with their personal finances spending money they dont have on things they dont need. Those are the people who should be in debtors prison.

I wouldn't think too hard when you consider the list of major enterprises that were started by a previously bankrupt person. Just think if Abaxas was in charge we may not have had the pleasure (plus wealth creation and jobs) of the Heinz empire, Disney, General Motors, Hershey, Ford motor corp, oh and Penthouse :)

To your knowledge, did any of them pay back the creditors they had shafted when they did make good?

In Walt Disney's case, his bankruptcy was brought about by a combination of the distributor that he'd sold his work to going bankrupt leaving him with a contract worth nothing, followed by his bankers pulling the plug. He made some naive contract decisions but like many companies today, he wasn't the one causing the problem, rather he got caught up as a result of the failure of other companies.

Whether or not Disney has ever paid the money back I don't know, but I do know the Disney corporation has worked hard to buy back what it sees as its history. For example, in a later contract dispute, Disney lost the rights to his successful Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series to Universal as well as some of his most talented animators. Its only over the past few years that Disney has managed to renegotiate the rights to these cartoons which now form part of the company's archives. Some of the other early animation by Disney is shown in heritage programming so they may well have managed to buy back some of the work.

As a result of losing the rights to Oswald and needing a new lead cartoon character, Disney went on to devise Mickey Mouse and the rest, as they say, is history.

    I'll tell you a scenario.

I would rather lose everything I own than sell a house to a member of HPC on the cheap.

Just a heads up to them. That is what you are dealing with.:rotfl:

I'm sure you'll have them quaking in their boots.

Right up until the point they buy a different house on the cheap instead. Or wait to get yours even cheaper as a repo.

My house is worth more than double I owe on the mortgage that somebody else pays.

You might wait a while before you can get your hands on that one.:)

Sorry to disappoint sibs but I'm not trying to get my hands on anything of yours.

I'm neither a housing speculator nor an HPC bear waiting to get a repo. I just can't understand why you would rather lose everything than take a small loss if the circumstances arose (which I'm not saying they would).

How would you know they were from HPC?

It is possible that you may not have any say in the matter.

The concept of you owning the housing just proves your stupidity.

You dont own the house, you rent the estate from the Queen.
