Something doesn't ring true about this story. No vet would begin treatment on an animal without first attempting to speak to the owners, let alone consider PTS even in an emergency situation. The neighbour obviously had the owners contact details!

What do you mean something doesnt ring true?, of course its true, that is an accurate account of what happened. the neighbour attended the vet and told them the cat was a stray, and must of agreed to pay the bill however apparrantly she managed to report me and my hubby to the RSPCA for failing to get vetinary care! - of course she know's who'se cat it is.....she has lived here, she tells me for 14 yrs, we have been here for 20+ yrs.

i have had a phonecall from my vet this pm (after i called this morning) she is bringing forward the planned appointment to tomorrow (because of my upset and worry over the situation) she has spoken to the other vet now and knows the "other side of the story". there is no substance in the neighbours allegations.

there's no planned medication in the pipeline, its just another health check up (which was booked on monday for 10 days time) however she may well give an antibiotic injection tomorrow to see if they can prevent or treat a possible infection occurring on the snotty nose.

Cat is not so snotty today or sneezing, though is off his food but drinking water.

Is the cat microchipped? Surely the vet could have scanned it to get your contact details if so before going ahead with treatment.

no the cat is 20yrs old almost - we werent offered any microchipping back then, we were offered it when cat was 12 but didnt expect the cat to survive for much longer!

OH MY GOD. What a terrible story!
I would be contacting the Police regarding the 'Breaking and entry' and also the RCVS regarding the second vet rushing into invasive treatment without permission from the owner.
( BTW, congratulations on said cat reaching such a venerable old age! )

i spent about half an hour knocking and talking to the other neighbours to see if they had any knowledge of where my cat was and explaining what had i had found, i was searching under bushes etc.....on top of that 20 mins i had left the cat alone, i rang my hubby to say cat missing, rang my sister (she works in police station to see if someone had rang in) all in all - i left work at 3pm, got home at 3.15, put cat out at 3.30 to do school run, i returned home at 3.50pm, and was at the vets at 5.10. i left the vets at 5.50pm i know this is correct as i had made phone calls.
3.45pm she was seen by the elderly neighbour driving up the road

Is that ok with you? there is nothing further to add, there's nothing i am hiding - why on earth would i hide something?

You go out and return 20mins later to find your neighbour has broken into your garden and not only whisked your cat off to the vet whilst reporting you to the RSPCA, but the vet has already started treatment!! As I said, something doesn't ring true. I don't think you're telling us the full story here.

maybe she had rang the RSPCA before swooping in for my cat. i dont know? all i know is that the vet i saw yesterday was very happy with the cats condition and said she wouldnt support any allegations made to the RSPCA about the care of my cat.
My own vet did not say to me on monday anything about my cats condition either on monday, she just said he was a lovely gentleman for his age, she did however tick me off for being almost a month over for boosters! (3 weeks actually) which was my own fault!

Reading your story made my blood boil! I would have ended up being arrested for punching the neighbour.
If your neighbour had had any concerns about your cat she should have contacted the RSPCA in the first instance, and left it to them to visit you and remove the cat if they thought it necessary for a vetinary examination. As others have said, she waited for a perfect moment to break into your garden and steal your cat. The fact she then LIED to the vet (saying it was a stray), is a further aggravating factor. Honestly, a phone call to a solictor is what is needed here, at the very least to get your money back for the unwanted treatment and also to ask them about your neighbour breaking & entering, and removal of your cat.

True, mine lived till 20,and then her quality of life became poor, not meaning to offend but if my cat was sneezing so much I had to cut clumbs of snot cut off,I would consider that that is not good quality of life ?

OP, I really feel for you, this is awful! We have had 6 cats in all (plus lots of lovely kittens at various times:D) and 3 of them had times when they looked pretty bad, bless them.

My first one forever had bald patches, was also a snotty, sneezy thing, and was tiny. She only lived to 10, but that was because she had an undersized heart - hence her repeated chest infections, etc. I can totally understand cutting out the snot - Tibbsi was short haired, but it was still a job and a half getting it out of her!

Velvet made it to 18ish (she had been dumped in a bin bag so we don't know for sure:mad:) and dies last year. Fot the last few years her vision had been poor and the last 6mths she struggles to clean herself and was quite smelly, bless her. Mum had her checked by the vets and was told it was just age, but nothing to worry about.

Both of these cats were affectionate, cuddly, purring and showing their tummies to the very end. I think my mother would have murdered the neighbour if she had been you!!!!!

Keep loving your cat, he knows you look after him well;)
