Left Pipex - do I need a MAC?

My parents have moved house, and have taken their telephone number with them to the new house - it's on the same exchange.

Pipex in their wisdom told me that I'd need to cancel the broadband and have it set back up again despite my protests that only a change of address was needed (presumably they wanted to tie my mother into a new 12mth contract).

So, I cancelled using Pipex's '7 day rule' - in that they cancelled within 7 days on the proviso that I would reconnect mum and dad to them once moved.

However, I don't want to go back to Pipex, and before I order broadband through someone else (Zen or possibly Namesco), I thought I'd ask: do I need a MAC from Pipex (who confirmed the cancellation of the broadband with me yesterday by telephone), or can I go ahead and reorder broadband with no comeback from Pipex?

no, if you're moving house you dont take the broadband with you (even if you take your telephone number). The ADSL is physically on the line. So what Pipex were saying was bang on correct, they'd have to have your broadband provided on the line at your new address.

You wouldnt need a migration code as the broadband that pipex had is still at your old address. So yes you can go to a new supplier & then apply for ADSL through the normal way.

I would advise you to get the contractual issues with pipex addressed, because you dont want to end up paying for 2 broadband services if it doesnt sort itself out!!!

Ah, but I telephoned Pipex to confirm full cancellation, that no more charges would be applied to that account, and they confirmed this - as far as their CS have led me to believe, the account is fully closed.

I can't think of anything else that's left to confirm with them, so I shall go ahead and re-order broadband at the new address.
