That seems strange to me. All the charity shops I've been in recently have signs up asking for books.

I was going to say BHF as well. It may be worth asking some of your local charities rather than the big ones, we have a couple, a special school & a couple of animal charity ones & they take books as they sell them really cheaply they have a fast turnover.
It does annoy me when some of the bigger ones won't take them anymore & yet are charging £2-£3 for a book.
  • I run a small Charity Bookshop. We are always looking for good quality 2nd hand books. We have a large volume of donated books, many of which are not saleable. We are able to recycle books, but contrary to belief we receive next to nothing for them.

We do not charge large amounts of money for our books and do have regular customers both locally and from further afield.

Many charity shops that sell a range of different items do not have the space to sell or store the books, therefore, they probably do have to dispose of a large quantity.
