Books for Charity

Options
My husband and I have a large amount of books that we would like to donate to a charity. The high street charity shops don't seem to be too botherd about books.

Can anyone suggest a charity that likes to take books please?

Maybe Try RNIB, as they might take them for their Really Good Read program as there have been a few book sales at their London headquarters?

  • Thanks for that info Sue. You wouldn't happen to have a website address or contact details would you for the dedicated Oxfam bookshops?

There's a link on this page to find your nearest.

If you're anywhere near Clevedon or Bristol I could make a couple more suggestions.

Most smaller charities sell unwanted donated books to dealers at around 2-5p a book, but like Savvy_Sue says Oxfam are different and run dedicated book shops.

  • Is there a local scool or library that you could donate the books to? Some people like to donate to the area, and schools always seem to be looking for book donations. Are they books for an adult reader? If so, you should talk with the local public library and see if they would take your donation!
  • What about the charity Healthy Planet that give books away
for free ,they approach landlords who have empty shops and
make an arrangement to move into the shops and occupy them
while they are looking for a permanent paying tenant.
Once they move into the shops they stack them up with Free books
and members of the public and visit and take books for free
and donate any ( if they have some)

Our local recycling centre now has a British Heart Foundation bin for books and cd's so may be worth seeing if yours has - that way you can get them out of your house on a Sunday, which is pretty handy I think as we tend to declutter on a Sunday and if we don't get rid of it straight away we get a change of heart, lol.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
