What type of calendar/diary do you use to organise your family?

I know it's very near the end of Jan already but we haven't sorted this out yet :o
We normally get bought a diary and/or calendar by someone in the family but not this year.
So I wondered what type of thing other peeps buy and do they manage to keep it up-to-date throughout the whole year?
I always start off with good intentions but I've never been well-organised so it eventually peters out...
However I really want and need to get more organised now so any comments would be gratefully recieved :D

We have a noticeboard and anything and everything gets attached to that.

I know our CM has a diary and write all her dates in there for everything.

I keep saying I'm going to make up a sheet with everyone's birthday, car tax, MOT and servicing, home insurance etc on it and be super organised, but never quite got around to it.:rotfl:

  • Brace yourself!

I have a diary and a birthday book and everything goes in there as soon as we know about it.

From this I write daily notes and lists on a scrap- paper pad so I know which days I need to make packed lunches etc, or when I need to post Great- Aunt Bertha's birthday card.

I also have a laminated weekly planner with printed things at the top like: change whoever's bed (delete as applicable) and clean the fishtank. I can then fill in each day's tasks too. This was to make it easier to SEE what needed to be done each day, if my pad got lost under the [STRIKE]carp on the worktop[/STRIKE] 'in tray'. It's useful for letting OH know about my appointments and hectic social schedule if kept updated but in reality DD usually points out that I haven't cleaned off last week yet.:p

There probably is a more streamlined approach but the chaotic (usually) works for me!

This is the calendar I use.

It is a school year calendar, so starts in Sept and goes to August. It is currently half price as it is half way through the year.

It is great, it has enough slots for up to 6 family members. I have four members, so we each have a column, then we have a whole family activity column and a birthday/anniversary column. So I can know at a glance when to write a card or send a present.

i just use a normal diary. were only a family of 5 so it very easy to keep track of thing's. i write every down in it, and keep it my my pillow. so every night i check it and know whats happening the next day.

my mum bought us a really pretty guess how much i love you family organiser, but tbh it isn't suitable for our need's. i find it more confusing that useful.

any urgent notices get stuck on the fridge, as it is eye level my baby can't reach it to take things off, and us adults can see things easily.

i hate things that can get messy tho. i like to keep lamiated kids drawings and photos on the fridge instead of note dotted all over it. so as soon as the note has been dealt with it goes, but generally only there for a day or so.

i also stick the kids weekly spellings on to the other fridge door, so they are always handy.
  • I use my head or the calendar on my mobile, anything that's due like car tax is put on the mantlepiece until dealt with, same with party invites for DD.

There are only 3 of us and DD is still at pre-school so it's pretty easy to keep track of stuff at the moment.

Car stuff is all due in the same month.

We use a Simpsons family planner calendar (had one for last 3 years), 5 columns for individual members of the family.
