please help with this odd one.

My set up is i run internet from a livebox and have a integral bb filter. I have a line coming into the house downstairs and i run an extension upstairs so that i can have a phone up and down.

Last weel i lost my internet connection i spoke to the orange call centre who advised me to unplug my downstairs phone and not to plug it back in again. I also reset the livebox with him over the phone.

He put in the post an adsl filter dsl 4122001. NOt sure what to do with it. Found it hard understanding him on the phone. At current internet is working ok but i only have phone upstairs and not down which i need to correct. I i just plug the phone in again will i lose my connection? Why did he send this filter in the post and what do i do?

i want to get back to how i was. Phone up and down and internet connection? Thanks.

If your ADSL is not filtered at the BT master socket (it would have two connections on the faceplate), then you need to have a microfilter on every extension that has a phone device - phones, fax, sky box etc.

It's just a standard ADSL microfilter. If you don't have one downstairs, then plug it into the BT socket and then connect the phone to the filter.

back again, it hasnt got two faceplates at the main socket only one does this matter. Should i still connect.

Its a single faceplate with screwed to the wall with a double socket extension connected one to send phone upstairs and one for the phone down. The one that goes upstairs goes into integral bb filter?

On the double socket downstairs, connect the upstairs cable to one of the double sockets, if you have a phone downstairs, connect an adsl filter to the other one of the the double sockets, then connect the phone to the filter BT type socket.

I cannot see where livebox has an integral filter

So upstairs, plug an adsl filter into the extension cable, plug livebox into that (smaller connector) and the phone in to the other BT type socket.

Upstairs should look like the 4th picture down, downstairs the almost same EXCEPT no live box of course, and you have a double adapter going in to the main socket..

Single is fine, it would be a different setup for a double.

Is your livebox upstairs or down, and also is the 'integral bb filter' part of the livebox.

    This is getting over complicated.

Everywhere you want to plug a phone in make sure there is a filter on the end of the phone connection. your internet can be plugged into the 'internet side' of either of these filters also serving a phone OR if you want to plug it in somewhere else you'll need a 3rd filter.

Basically everythign you plug in must be connected to a filter.

IMPORTANT: always turn your router off FIRST before unplugging its phoneline/disconnecting its link to the outside world or you risk screwing with your profile at the exchange and having slow internet for a week or two while it stabilises again...
