3 All you can eat data package

Options
3mobile are doing an unlimited data package on the iphone 4 for £35 a month. Do you think this would be suitable as my only means of internet access?
I'm currently paying around £45 a month in total for mobile, landline and broadband, I know I could get these cheaper, but the I like the idea of only having one bill instead of three.
I will be moving house in a few months (hopefully) and I really don't see the need to get a landline installed as I only use the one I have now for the broadband.

A big downside of this is the 24month contract. I need to be sure it will work as I need it to before signing up.

I only really use the internet for email, reading forums like this one, or occasionally iplayer. I don't do games.

How receptive are they of haggling in the 3 shops?

Thanks for your help.

Well if you were happy to have days where the service was so slow as to be usable, I use mobile data a lot but it's just not comparable to fixed home broadband.

Does the "unlimited" contract allow tethering or are you considering limiting yourself to using the iPhone only?

Come to that does the iPhone support tethering without jailbreaking it?

Apparently it does. I have a friend who has this package, he's coming over later so I can try it out.

Ideally you need to check it at your new place before signing up too. 3G is very location dependent.

You won't get the HD iPlayer streams very reliably imo and possibly not the standard ones either. You also need to check carefully for any FUP as I can't see it being truly unlimited when the mobile world is cutting back on 3G allowances because of the capacity overload caused by smartphones and iPlayer uses a lot of bandwidth. I think there used to be issues getting it at all with mobiles but maybe that has been sorted now.

For just light browsing and email 3G could well be good enough so long as you get a good connection to a cell that isn't hammered to hell and back when you want to use it.
