The drop-down search box on the Google toolbar on our office computer shows that someone has been searching for some really nasty pornographic stuff. (I'd rather not go into detail). There's more of it on the search history list. Only my boss and I use the computer, and it's certainly nothing to do with me. Can this sort of stuff appear on its own via spam or viruses? Its making me nervous.

Highly unlikely it's a virus. Never heard of such a thing. If it ain't you, it's your boss!
I take it he doesn't know much about computers or he'd cover his tracks! How awful for you. :eek:Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

not nice.. CCleaner it try to forget, but if it happens again you might want to give your boss some advice about cleaning out the cache.0

Eeeek - I'm lost for words on this one.
You have my condolences. You might like to wipe the keyboard clean whilst you are at it.0 -
Hmm, so it seems my suspicions have been confirmed. Now I've got to decide whether to say anything to him or not. It's such a pity, cos otherwise it's a nice little job, but things like this really give me the creeps. You're right, amd, he doesn't know that much about computers. And as for your suggestion, garcia -

Good luck in looking for a new job. It's not your responsibility to clean up his muck.scrimperjan wrote:... someone has been searching for some really nasty pornographic stuff. .....Only my boss and I use the computerTorgwen..........

It's easy enough to clean up the drop down menu.....you'll need to try a little harder with the keyboard and mouse. _pale_
Go to tools>internet options>content> and select the forms and passwords>click ok (IE6)
It's in general>browsing history>form data (on IE7)0 -
Could you report him anonymously to human resources? I suppose the problem would be that it's a shared computer, and that could implicate you. I'm surprised he's got away with it to be honest I'd have thought most sompanies have firewall and filters. I wouldn't personally say anything as I couldn't imagine working with someone with that hanging between us. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

It's just a very small setup; he is actually the owner of the company and there are only two employees, me and another lady, so he is not answerable to anyone else in that respect.Could you report him anonymously to human resources? Just bring it up with your boss saying someone might be using the computer to look at unappropriate material. i.e. making out you don't think it's them, maybe it'll just cause enough embarrassment for them to stop doing it or clear their tracks.
Instead of wasting your time with programs to clear it, just highlight it when the dropdown appears and hit the "delete" key and it'll remove it from the drop down list.
If because they are the boss and you don't want to rock the boat but would rather live in ignorance of it happening, you can just turn off "auto complete". This would stop the search webpages such as google from providing you with the drop down menu so you won't know what your boss has been searching under.
You can also delete the web page cache to remove this also. But the "auto complete" solution stops it from being displayed altogether.
Just ask on the techie board if you aren't sure how to turn off the "Auto Complete" or delete web page cache.0
