Conflicting information on Heathrow website about laptops. Last time a flew it definetly had to go in hand luggage:

Passengers are now permitted to carry more than one item of hand luggage through security. You will, however, need to check with your airline before arrival at the airport. Some airlines will only allow you to carry one item of hand baggage, and the weight and size allowances differ between airlines

    Then this further down:

Laptops will need to be removed from your bag at Heathrow Airport and screened separately in the trays provided. A laptop bag will be regarded as your one item that is allowed in the cabin

Also last two times I have flown they weighed the hand luggage and made me remove stuff. I was lucky in that our main suitcases still had room.
  • The terms above are from Etihad. I just found a UK freephone number on their website and called them, CS confirmed laptop is a seperate carry on free item which doesn't count towards hand luggage weight allowance.

I guess best thing to do is to stay within limit if there is no one with me at the airport.

Looks like Heathrow have not proof read their website correctly. Looks like second paragraph may be from old text.

That site is NOT the official LHR website...for up to date baggage info always check your airline's site, as OP has done, and the official site of the airport
