Malaysian Airlines delay into London - can I claim compensation?

A few days ago I was delayed over four hours leaving Kuala Lumpur for London while the airline (Malaysian) waited for connecting passengers from another of its planes to come in.
Can I claim the EU compensation? (Does it matter that Malaysian Airlines is not an EU carrier?)
If so, are there any standard letter templates around or a form of words I should use?
Would I need to send the letter to Malaysian Airlines in KL or can I send to the UK office?

What exactly do you think you deserve compensation for ?????
Mental anguish ? Being forced to wander duty free for longer than normal? P-leah-se !!
A whole four hour delay is not unheard of -was this your first ever flight by any chance ? BTW you said it left four hours late-how much time did it catch up enroute ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

Would you have preferred that the plane left on time and connecting passengers were stranded?
Delays are a fact of life when flying. 4 hours isn't unusual by any means. The most compensation you could have got is a voucher for food and drink at the airport while waiting, but that is purely at the discretion of the airline.
The best way to deal with delays is to get a drink, read a book and not get stressed by it.0 -

You've answered your own question with that link
"The legislation applies to all flights which have an EU airport as the departure point or those with an EU airport as the final destination if you've travelled on an EU airline."
Did the flight depart from an eu airport? No
Did it arrive at an eu airport and you travelled with an eu carrier? No
This compensation grabbing attitude nowdays really gets on my wick, it was 4 hours not 4 days!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Anyone want to answer my question?
I did, in reply #1. But incase you missed it:
"No." To elaborate, Well read the post above.
4 hours. Sometimes sh*t just happens! Hardly the worst crime against humanity, I'm sure you'd have been grateful if you were a connecting passenger.0 -

I've been thinking the same thing a lot lately...I acknowledge that in some cases it's justifiable...but it seems that lately everyone's first question when anything doesn't go 100% to plan is 'how much am I due?!'
I also think the EU legislation is, for the most part, bonkers...so I maybe not to be trusted to have an opinion.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Well said!
I too hate the whole money-grabbing 'compo' ethos that seems so prevalent these days.
Me too cannot watch tv or listen to radio without being bombarded with compo claim adverts, claim culture just like America.
As for OP question it was 4 hours !!!!!! these things happen if you don't like it then don't fly again for fear of it ever happening to you again.0
