is it just me, or is there a large amount of ' new people' joining today to offer there insite about FDcredit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
We've included this promotion in our weekly email, and whilst it looks good on paper we're not sure it's good in practice.
Please let us know if you've tried to use this offer and whether it delivered savings others couldn't
Did you save 10% on your cover or were there too many caveats to make it worth while?
Thanks
Complete waste of time. Could not deliver!0 -

The same has happened to us - why do they say they can beat any quote and then try make us phone them which will then cost us money? :mad:0 -
just tried doing this.
got 10% off renewal price, and then went back to my current company (swift cover) and said I had found a cheaper quote.
Didnt tell them how much and they offered free legal cover brinking it to £9 cheaper than FD quote and about 12% off renewal overall. not massive but compared to everything else out there I am saving about £60.
maybe worth using FDs 10% to haggle with renewal company.0 -
I was with Equity through a broker. Renewal quote £506 , up from £439 despite another year of no claims. First direct beat that to around £455. exisiting broker then beat that to £436 ish, FD then beat that to around £396(figures approx). I was on limited miles of 7000 and FD allow 12000 - all like for like apart from that (and of course its the same insurer, just switched broker in effect !)
So I am paying less than last year for more cover.
It worked - thanks Moneysaving team again!0 -
My renewal was 700 plus been quote by others 400-350 they won't beat that only the renewal took several phone calls to confirm that spoke to a couple of half wits.
I've heard good things about First Direct get more sense from Indian call centres. Don't tell me this is part of the bank this aint like the advert0 -
This didn't work for me because my son is 20 and they do not insured drivers under 21 - typical. My renewal quote was £830 with Admiral so far I've had a quote from Aviva for £1,800 - looks like I'm staying with Admiral0

Wish I'd read the forum first.
I misread the First Direct website and thought they were beating any quote (not renewal quote). My existing insurer wants £477.60, but I had got this down to £224.32 through Moneysupermarket. First Direct quoted me £201.87, but only after I had taken out the policy did I get an email saying "This offer is subject to you providing sufficient evidence of your current insurer's invited renewal premium."
It's too late to cancel it today, but if I phone on Tuesday they will be able to sort it out!0 -
They couldn't quote for me - as the OH is a named driver with a provisional licence (although he is 25).
Not very impressed with the 'guaranteed' renewal promise - they couldn't beat my renewal quote (aviva) so that's surely mis-advertising their insurance?0 -
First time I called the First Direct Colchester call center got a lady who was singularly unhelpful, so I was going to give up with them. A few hours later I thought, what the hell, i'll give them one more go. This time got a guy called Lewis, Mr Customer Service personified - polite, knowledgeable and helpful. He sorted the discount - 10% less than my Aviva renewal as promised, I was surprised because I hadn't been able to beat my renewal quote after hours of following the Martin Lewis method but I really wanted to leave Aviva after experiencing their appalling customer service (They tried to pull the old 'We never got copies of your renewal docs showing 9 years NCD, so we'll just help ourselves to another £500 from your credit card' Despite the fact I had their letter in my hand stating 'Thank you for sending us your renewal doc's' their Indian call centre said such a letter 'did not exist' - but that's for another forum, suffice it to repeat what has been said many times on this consumer site and others - avoid Aviva!) Anyway to cut a long story short my advice when calling Direct Line car insurance - Ask to speak to Lewis!0
