CRB check..... what does it check?

I have applied for a job in a school and it looks likely that the job is mine if I want it :j. Obviously I will need a CRB check which is not a problem - or so I thought.... until a friend suggested that my speeding fine might show up and cause a problem :eek:
I was caught speeding in July last year. 3 points and £60 later I had just about forgotten about it and I never even considered this to be a problem until today.
Will this show up, and more importantly will this matter?

Introduction
The Criminal Records Bureau ( CRB ) provides access to criminal record and other relevant information to employers and licensing authorities in England and Wales. The results of the checks carried out by the CRB help organisations make more informed decisions when recruiting people to work with children and the vulnerable.
CRB checks are also available to certain specified professional, licensing and regulatory bodies whose employees or volunteers are not necessarily in direct contact with the vulnerable.
Through the CRB service, organisations can ensure greater protection for the vulnerable members of our society and afford greater protection to their customers, staff, volunteers and ultimately their organisation.

What information is available through a CRB check?
A CRB check can provide access to a range of different types of information, such as, information:- held on the Police National Computer (PNC), including Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings in England and Wales, and most of the relevant convictions in Scotland and Northern Ireland may also be included. (The CRB reserves the right to add new data sources).
- held on lists maintained by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA);
The CRB does not check whether an applicant is permitted to work within the UK. The employer has liability for ensuring that the person they intend to employ does not have any restriction on their ability to take up employment within the UK. I live in Scotland and we have Disclosure rather than CRB up here.... Theyre a similar idea - I just wanted to say that if you are worried at all that the fine will show you should call and speak to the company.
I work in a place which uses Enhanced Disclosure which means absolutely everything shows up. And while some motoring stuff doesnt stop you getting the job depending on what it is, the fact the it isnt disclosed at interview does!:eek: However, our candidates are asked it, it may not matter for this organisation. I dont want to panic you at all, just something to perhaps consider. Good luck with the job

I have 3 speeding tickets and an enchanced CRB as part of my job - they do NOT show up. I imagine it would only matter if you need a clean driving license as part of the job, or if like a div collegue of mine were caught speeding with a client in your car!!!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I put my points on my disclosure, and the person takng the identity stuff said it would make no difference, and it didn't. No problem.0

I haven't filled anything out yet, so I have not 'not' disclosed anything. I will definitely mention it when I speak to them again. I really hope you are right and it doesn't affect things. I don't see why it should. Fingers crossed. Thank you all!!0

I can confirm that your speeding fine will definately not show up on your CRB certificate. The only thing which will automatically show up on your certificate will be any convictions which are held on a criminal record (PNC). It can be disclosed if the post applied for is something to do with driving eg School Driver. You only need to tell your potential employers if they ask you specifically if you have any points on your licence, otherwise there is no reason for you to tell them.

If you were just issued with a fixed fine for speeding then it shouldn't show up. If you were actually charged by the police with speeding and were convicted of an offence, then it should show up on an Enhanced CRB check.
As Gina stated, convictions held on central records will be disclosed, along with any other information (approved information) that a Chief Constable deems relevant to your particular post (only a minority of cases and wouldn't really cover speeding, unless it was a particularly bad offence and your job would involve transporting children etc.)0 -

It would also show up on a standard check.
As others have said, FPNs don't show up as they aren't convictions. FPNs *could* show up under the "other information" section but it's pretty unlikely unless you have loads and are applying for a driving job.
Don't worry about it - even if the ticket does show up it probably won't matter. Just because your disclosure isn't blank doesn't meant that you can't get any childcare job. They will be looking to see if you are barred or have convictions for serious stuff. If it does show up and they ask you, be honest. I once received a disclosure that listed a speeding fine that the subject hadn't declared and I asked him - he plain old forgot about it and it didn't bother me.
Points might affect you if you drive for the school, but at that point they would likely want to see your licence anyway.0
