I have obtained a php script.. to my surprise I managed to install it, and make a few required alterations , however the site is still based in us $ not UK £, for both the database info and the paypal link...
any idea whereabouts I could find the right file to alter

If it's a decent script then it should be in a config file.
If not you'll have to work out which file it actually is, or if there aren't many files just open them and search for a word next to the $ sign. I wouldn't search for $ itself because php uses $ alot0 -
thanks for your reply
I wouldn't search for $ itself because php uses $ alot
yeah found that out !!!!
no config file ...can't see what I'm looking for in install ( would it be in this??), or conn or index..
can't seem to search and there's no word next to it... as teh info is then lifted from the database
wondered if $ sign is not actually used to represent currency .. rather some other code - like $ and I could replace with £ ??Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
If it's using a database then it may be using a field from one of the tables.
It's really hard to tell you what to search for without actually being able to see where the $ sign isThere are no words next to the $ sign? Strange, I would've thought there would be at least some normal html content
It could be in the install script, hard to say
The way I find things if I can't find it directly is to look at what surrounds the "thing" I want and search for that instead as you can normally pick out html or images easily from scripts.0 -
Payless, is the script running on a Server or your PC? If on a Server, then has it got any database admin panel like phpMyAdmin? You can use this to examine the database records to see if the currency is held in any of the fields. If on your PC, then you can download phpMyAdmin:
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php
The conn file usually contains any connection data to make the connection to your database.
Index is usually your homepage.
Have you got a website authoring program like Dreamweaver? This will allow you to search for text in the source code of php files. Maybe try a free one if you don't have one?

Hi
the script is running on a server - looked at the database and can't see any currency selection.
Have not yet tried to install stuff to run on own PC
Yes I have Dreamweaver ( MX ver 6 ?)
I have now realised the $curency sign is on each separate script - there's a lot of them, managed to find one .. as code was $$ , changing it to £$ then produced the right currency on that webpage
A lot of work to change the lot.. but its a learning curve
cheers guysAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
You do know Dreamweaver will do a sitewide find and replace, right?
Click on Edit then Find and Replace. Choose "Source Code" and "Entire current site" from the drop down menus, then type in your 2 strings. Just make sure the string you look for is unique to the particular expression you want to change.
HTH
P.s. You need to have declared the server where your files are located as a site in Dreamweaver first.0 -
