I saw some track adaptors on ebay but haven't spotted them on any of these sites. (Which are great by the way!)

They allow the child to join 2 circular tracks, rather than a straight and a curved one. Has anyone used these? Are there any other adaptors you thought were essential for play time fun?!

  • my son is four and very technical minded, he has three turn tables and sits for ages setting up a complecated track, the most handy bits we have are called wacky track, these bend really easily for tight corners etc.

his favourite bits are cranky, water tower, and the thomas choclate factory, dont forget the giggling trucks and battery thomas.

he really wants the huge engine shed but this cost to much

do keep an eye out at car boot sales as i got ten of the wooden thomas character engines for £1 each

Ah, brilliant! I have seen these and thought they were just a daft gimmick. I can see how useful they'd be now. Thanks.

  • we very wary of brio ebay sellers, they buy tesco stuff take the packets off and sell it as brio compatible track for 4x the cost !
  • I've got together with my parents and we're getting an order together for his birthday and Christmas from Rob Roys to cut down on postage. And I've ordered some of the curved track joiners so he can join circular tracks together since he likes making lots of little circles out of it. I got them from the Thomas shop.

So thanks everyone! I'm looking out for some cheaper versions of the wacky track too.

  • I gave my brother wacky track for his 41st birthday (my nephew is 4) instead of booze, socks, shirt ...yawn Both boys were very pleased!

I think you might find this is what you're looking for.

You can never get enough track adapters, they allow endless railway engineering options, long after your son has lost interest in it!

  • Yes. Doh, I bought the wrong thing. That is exactly what I need. Thank you. Fortunately the 'wrong' thing will still go down a storm and I think I'll get both and just take one item off my Rob Roy list. That should do it.

    Thanks everyone!

Just to mention, some of the supermarket copycat versions don't fit too well with the Brio tracks (the 'male' bits are slightly wider than the Brio ones, making the joints are extremely tight) - this can be easily solved with a small wood file - takes about 10 seconds to file each one down ever so slightly to fit!
