Isn't it about time old threads were routinely locked?

I think its a great idea to lock threads that have been dormant for say 6 months,as usually the info is out of date

I only have ever used another forum (fashion based) and they routinely lock threads then start a new one when they become too long, which could also apply to mse

Obviously some threads will be timeless in which the latter option would apply more, but in more cases simply locking an old thread would make searching and getting the correct information easier

It already does ... (the board guides do it)

Locking would not automatically affect searching (e.g. search on 'Board Guide Role Description') - it merely stops you posting something new to the thread.

I think a warning at least would be helpful... especially on posts with links in it.
As an example... just had a skim through the turnip / swede thread in OS, and found a yummy sounding recipe link, which was long-dead. That was just a small thread... ok, dating back to 2005, but not one of the epic, ancient ones in OS!

I guess these links could be reported, but it would take forever!

    Corrected! ;)

TripAdvisor locks old threads - makes the board much neater and easy to follow.
    Gone ... or have I?
