It may wait even later to recruit more customers over spring/summer when usage (and therefore its income) is down and then hit them hard in winter.
EDF already hiked prices for 1.2m in October so even if it holds off longer it is no saint.
Taking a big punt here but...
Predicted hike date: 1 October
Announcement: some random Friday a few weeks before0 -
1st march , gas 9% electric 7%0

March the 8th is my guess and quite a substantial rise because they sacrificed some profit over the winter months to gain more market share.
Plus they'll be counting on people not feeling the pain so much as the rise will be in the generally cheaper spring and summer months.
So my guess is an average 7% rise considering inflation as well.0 -
IIRC the 'promise' stated that they wouldn't raise prices 'until March at the earliest' so I'm with cbrpaul here (we have an advantage over most of the respondees so far as we have experienced this company's 'service'!) so...
1/3/11
Gas up 8.2%
Electricity up 6.1%0 -
Interesting to see - most people are early with me. I think MSE guys logic has merit though, it could use summer to build customer base then wait until the high use winter period starts to raise prices.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Here's my prediction:
They WILL increase prices. It won't be the biggest rise, around 5-8% as it's already dropped its most competitive online tariffs. It will have won a lots of new customers from the £100 bonus it offered (as well as the prize freeze), which made it cheapest for many so will want to capitalise on that.
I'm going to go for Friday 18 March for the announcement. Energy companies always seem to want to catch you on your way out of the office! But from its point of view it's probably hoping to get less coverage.
Friday 18 March, gas 5%, elec 2%.0 -

They would probably need to do that to stop the people who have switched to them recently switching away at the earliest opportunity! Whether they have had too big an influx to cope with or maybe they are just incompetent, I don't know, but even a cursory glance at the various EDF switch threads on the G&E forum would tell you all you need to know about how the company are 'performing' at the moment. One word: woefully.0
