Cheap Mobile Phone Calls From Spain To Uk Etc

I have been using the following method since Sept 04 for cheap mobile phone calls from Spain to UK landline. Will also give same charge calls to Europe, Oz etc.

When in Spain buy an Amena pay as you go sim card for 22€ (gives approx 10€ call credit which is ok for 9months). Compatable in my Nokia for 02, & Vodaphone.

Then buy an Amena 5€ international call card. Is green with white band on r/h/side & yellow circle etc in centre. On rear has free access no, pin etc. This gives 1hr. 55 mins of calls to uk landlines from your mobile. IT DOES NOT CHARGE YOUR SPANISH SIM CARD. You can check by using 2 free text messages per day to Amena.

Updates time remaining for each call in English.

I bought the 5€ card from Benidorm indoor market "Andy's phone stall" English speaking. V helpful & will answer your questions. Card also available from other outlets.

Amena is Spanish Nat. co. good clear lines etc. If only used for a short call seems to use more mins, could poss be min charge for each call. Going to check this when in Spain next week.

    Hi

I am very interested in what you say but cannot understand the following.

  • Hi AST

Sounds like a good deal. Would be very interested in reading more.

Any chance of further information by 28 Feb after which I'll be in Costa Blanca with a mobile phone etc etc

    Beats £1 a minute with 3

    Thanks

Interesting. Is the calling card on sale in the same places as the SIM?
  • Is this link any good for you, about Amena and Vodaphone Dual Sims (Single and Multiple Group also available on same website):
    http://www.spainsim.com/dualsim.htm
CALLS BETWEEN THE 2 PHONES WITH THESE CARDS IN THEM COST ONLY 3 CENTS/MINUTE, FOREVER!!! NO STRINGS ATTACHED!!! WE ARE THE ONLY SIM RESELLER ON THE WWW THAT CAN OFFER THESE DUAL LINKED SIMS.

And the "The credit being used up is the credit on your amena discount international card and does not affect the balance of your amena SIM card" is something I don't understand, but have a read anyway:
    http://www.spainsim.com/amenacallcards.htm

Has anyone bought from spainsim? I have emailed then and they seem to manage an answer after a while.

Sorry - just found this as well:

if you are looking to buy a SIM card for use in Spain between February 1 and June 21st, 2005, vodafone just became your choice.
"Talk 60 minutes, pay for just 1, no strings attached!!! From Feb. 1st until June 21st, 2005 all of your calls to other vodafone mobiles and/or landlines in Spain will cost you just the 1 minute rate for up to a 60 minute phone call!!!

So, on each call you make, you pay the first minute plus the 12 cent (standard) connection fee and get to talk for the next 59 minutes FREE!!!"
But I think that the call rate back to the UK is still expensive with Vodafone (What is the Spanish for United Kingdom?):

    30c connection + 36c per minute ?? (I must improve my Spanish)

Iffy_Wallet, that's pretty interesting too. The dual sim I misunderstood for a while, but I think it means on either of the 2 networks you can get a linked pair of SIMs together on some kind of best friend (or couples, obviously) tariff.

Those 2 networks have free calls to the equivalent of 0800 (900 or something like it?). Amena do a calling card that you can use in conjunction with this; dial the access number then a pin number then the destination - this is the method that ast was mentioning above.

Perhaps that later Voda deal would have the possibility of similar methods of calling UK cheaper, though it might be surprising if the Amena card worked with it.
