Thanks for help everyone. Have had no heating for weeks and it's a little chilly on Teesside!
It's getting fitted Dec 27, a smart Baxi 24 HE Platinum with five years parts and labout gurantee. Fitted with removal and making good plasterwork etc, flushing of new system, new thermostats and room thermostat for £2,185 inc.
He offered a cheaper one for £1850 but I've gone for this. The plumber also comes highly recommended by a builder friend.
It will be in the bedroom I'm afraid. Three plumbers looked and all said it wasn't possible to put it on the other side without taking up the epxensive floorng in kitchen and bathroom so I had no choice.
Once again, thanks for all your help.0 -
Hi
Hope it works out as good as it sounds .If you are happy at the end of it then you can recommend them to others.
Here's to a toasty New Year.

My plumber has quoted £450 to flush out the heating system, as the rads have cold spots and some don't get hot at all. Is this about right, it sems an awful lot of money on top of the new pump that cost £150. It seems it must be flushed out or this new pump will pack up like the old one........how do the pipes get filled up with stuff when it is the same water in it all the time? ......or am I being dense!!!0

I had a combi boiler when i moved into my house. It was useless, where we live, the water is very hard here, and the boiler scales up really badly. I wouldnt advise anyone to have one with hard water.
Next boiler will defiantly be a condenser type.0 -
Elizabeth_T.so your plumber is quoting you £600 for a flush out and new pump ! Get another quote ,dont tell the next plumber what the other plumber had quoted !0
