Anyone got any idea what a new boiler is ging to cost??

Hi all,

I have had the wonderful news today that my current single baxi boiler (only supplies the central heating) is totally knackered - this has been confirmed by 2 heating engineers.

I have no idea however how much a new boiler is going to cost inc. fitting. I am based in Swindon, Wilts if that is any help but I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the sort of cost I am looking at?

Also i was thinking it might be better to get a combi boiler now in case the water boiler decides to pack up. Would this be much more expensive?

Thanks for any help from a very depressed soon to be broke cold person.

Hiya sorry to hear your boiler is KAPUT!!! This is only a guesstimate but to fit a new boiler only , is going to cost upwards of £1000 , depends on the cost and type of boiler you choose but I think £1000 will be the minimum you could expect , rising to £2000 and more if you use someone like British Gas as installer.... sorry its not better news....

Someone much better qualified will be along and advise you about the Combi question....

  • Hiya, I had an combi and a whole new system put in in May this year. I researched the cost of the boiler and it comes up as around £650 on the trade web sites (just wanted to know what I was getting). But with labour etc it would have thougt it would be around £1000. The whole system for a 1 bed flat cost £2200.
    Good luck with it.

I was just about to post the same question as the OP so you've all saved me a job. My boiler was also condemned yesterday after a routine service. He wouldn't even switch it back on.

To be honest I feared it would be £1,700 to £2,000 so I'd be delighted if you're right. It's an old house and a fiddly job. I'm told recent safety legislation has increased costs.

I'll let you know when the quotes come in - shall we compare notes OP?

MiM my guesstimate was only for the boiler, it will cost a lot more if other parts of the system are also old and need replacing...

Mine cost 2.5k plus vat for a valiant boiler/take out old tank/flush out radiators. Good news- it's worked perfectly since. Bad news- I think I was ripped off but am in central london so nothing's cheap.

We just got a brand new combi boiler, pipework, radiators and room thermostat in a largeish 3-bed flat and it cost £2.9K all in. As the old system we had was in so long the pipes were very thin and just replacing the boiler could have caused a lot of problems and put a strain on the new combi boiler so we just decided to play safe and get the lot done.

I believe from 2007 you will have to have a more efficient condensing boiler. I'll try and find a link to post for everyone.
  • Hi , My boiler was replaced last April. I went to the corgi website put in my post code and phoned six engineers and got quotes I didn't necessarily go with the cheapest (just the one with good value and less bulls**t). It worked out at £1300 for a baxi combi. British Gas quoted £2700 for a condensing boiler!! Good luck shrewdal
