    You mean 020 7192 ****.

You try dialling 192 ****, the local part of the number you gave, you won't get the response you are expecting.

However dial 7192 **** from anywhere within the 020 code area and you will connect to the correct number.

    (* being the missing digits).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Sometimes a company will designate its switchboard to route outbound calls on a different exchange line number from its incoming calls. This serves to ensure that customers don't meet with the 'engaged' tone too often.

0207 192 1071 (02071921071) has been plaguing us with calls recently - it's always a missed call when we get home. The other night we were in when they rang and it just went dead when we answered after a brief office-noise moment.

Tonight they called twice but just now it finally worked and it was Debenhams calling to sell me PPP Axa health insurance. Hopefully that's it and they won't call again now. I think they use one of those auto-dialers that connects to an operator when you pick up - but sometimes there's no-one available and it just goes dead.

    Gits.

Yeah, could well be an auto-dialler and they don't have enough representatives to handle the call, so you get silence until the computer drops the call.
