Wireless doorbell broken again, what are my rights?

I have searched with no luck, so forgive me if I've missed the right thread.
I purchased a wireless doorbell from B&Q back in September 2010. It has just stopped working, (tried all the usual tricks, new batteries in the bell and the push switch, works for a day then won't work). So basically unuseable.
I've just dug out the receipt. On the back of the receipt it clearly says no refunds or replacements after 45 days of purchase, (or words to this effect). My question is this: If I return the item tonight for a refund or replacement, will I simply be turned away with a £50 doorbell that's useless after 4 months?
Any advice will be welcomed.
EDIT: I should have mentioned that the first wireless doorbell broke after 1 week which was refunded, and I then purchased the next model up. I think I want to go back to hard wired again!

The receipt probably also says 'your statutory rights are not affected' - you're returning the item under the Sale of Goods Act, the merchandise is unmerchantable.0

What make is it? I had a similar problem with a Byron doorbell from B&Q and I contacted Byron direct. New doorbell fitted within a week after returning my old one, still working 2.5 years later.
I know your contract is with the retailer but sometimes the easier way is to go direct to the manufacturer,0 -
That stuff on the back of the receipt is just about returning it if you change your mind etc.
If it is faulty then your statutory rights should ensure the retailer either replaces, repairs or refunds the item.0 -
So I returned it to B&Q last night. They wanted to test it but I explained it was intermittent and would sometimes last a day before going wrong again. The guy said they'd had a lot of these returned and they'd recently changed to Phillips wireless doorbells instead.
They offered me a credit note which I was happy to accept, and put it towards a new bell which is now fitted and working.

The guy on the returns desk said that the Bryons were coming back in big numbers, hence the change of supplier. Unfortunately this was our 2nd that had gone wrong, and with my wife being a childminder you really cannot afford to have a doorbell that you're not confident is going to work. I'm glad yours is still working .Pants0
