I'm not being funny here but how can anyone on benefits be classed as living in poverty???? My sister has never worked, has 5 kids, a 4 bed detatched house with a garage that she gets full HB and CTB for and she gets over £600 a week in tax credits and benefits on top of that!! It makes me sick, my husband is working in a job he hates just to make ends meet for us, its a joke!!!

A quick glance of your other posts shows you are hardly just making ends meet - a little perspective perhaps?

  • Actually yes we are, For our holiday this year we used holiday vouchers to book it and if you had read one of my other posts you will see that we are struggling to pay the rest of the deposit on time. This is our first ever holiday abroad as a family and without the gift of the holiday vouchers we wouldn't have even thought to go. Myself and my husband do nothing and go nowhere so my children can have a decent holiday once a year as they don't get much else!!! I have to use my tesco clubcard vouchers to buy myself clothes a couple of times a year, just so my children don't go without!! I am rather annoyed that I am having to justify myself on here, I am not lying, we do genuinely struggle, my sister was able to go and book and pay for her honeymoon straight out in one go and she is on benefits!!!

don't worry kellynov. she cant keep having kids forever (eventually she'll hit the menopause lol) and once her last child has finished school, all her benefits will come to an abrupt end and she'll have to live on JSA like all the other single people/childless couples have to!
  • Thank you and if I offended anyone with my rant earlier I do apologise, I really wasn't saying everyone on benefits is the same, I do realise some people genuinely have no other choice but to claim benefits!! and 'struggling to make ends meet' probably was a slight exaggeration at this moment in time. For 12 months we were struggling to put food on the table and pay our bills, we were living on Tesco Value frozen food!! My husband had to resign from his previous job and take on a job that is awful, and he dreads just to make life a little easier and better for us, he is also working lots more hours now. my sister on the hand just has another kid lol!!!! Like I said I understand people like my sister are in the majority fortunately but they do give genuine benefit claimaints a bad press sometimes (just look at Jeremy Kyle lol!!)

It is not fair for you to slag off your sister who is not here to justify herself, yet expect no comments about your own situation. If you are genuinely struggling you would not be spending money, be it in vouchers or otherwise, on an overseas holiday.

A holiday once a year is more than what I got as a child. It's not some sort of automatic right.

I find credits benefits aimed at parents of school kids, but yes once the parents hit say 40 they have 25 yrs to get back to work and stop watching jeremy kyle all day.
Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

You're right its not an automatic right, however, its a nice little treat to have after working damned hard all year for your wages when shysters are claiming £££ off the system and end up with more disposable income than those in work.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)
