KIA Cars - any good?

Anybody got experience of KIA cars - looking at a Ceed 1.6 CRDi 3 Estate - nice car for the money - its a company car so emissions etc and tax are right, have been used to a Passat estate but this one has lots to offer, is this service aspect good for KIA ??

All I know about the Kia Cee'd is that I like the look of it. Not helpful I know, but I wanted to share :)

As stated elsewhere on here, I had a Kia C'eed 1.6 petrol on a free 3 day free trial, I was pleasantly surprised with it.

Have a test drive, see what you think.:)

    Yes.
I know a few people that have had Kia Pride for years and love them.
We've had a Ceed estate for about a year now (company car) and are very pleased with it. Had a Vectra before that and dh says he'd choose Kia over it (though its accelleration is rubbish compared with Vectra's).

I've been given a few Kia cars at work - Generally they are very basic and the fuel economy is apalling so you'll have to balance that against the low purchase price.

Edit: Forgot to add that some models are quite difficult to drive - eg the last one I drove had a very sensitive accelerator that would send the revs rocketing at the slightest touch. The brakes weren't that good either with the pedal going half way down before anything happened.

I have driven the Ceed - it wasn't too bad in comparison to the other offerings.

    Damned by faint praise.

Other than the Corsa, I can't think of any modern UK car worse to drive than a Vectra.

  • using a 1.6 16v ceed at present. nice interior, hacthback has good room, good boot, dash is nicely laid out and the heaters get very warm very quick, have seen the estate or SW as their called, and verry roomy especially when the rear seats fold down.

bad points in my experience. not many

petrol version rather under powered for 1.6

    bit of understear.

suspension isnt as tight as it could be, has a bit of roll to it coupled with the understear.

those half leather look seats take alot of cleaning and effort to keep clean but the seat are comfy and has adjustable lumbar.
    good points.

good storage in the door pockets

air con cooled glove box selectable!

    adjustable hight seats,

    climate control

windscreenm wipers are silent you cant hear the whine of a motor.

    nice illuminated dasha and clocks.

the stereo system is better than most cars and hardley ever loses a station.

the centre consol is a blessing having two storage componants to it first compartment will easily hide satnav cables wallet etc while the larger second compartment will house cd's, dvd's, satnavs. great drinks holder! keeps the cans bottles and mcD's large drinks in them with ease.

dont see the point ot the ash tray its was too small and even if you smoked you'd end up missing it or hittin you lit ends on the dash (not that ive tried)

the dash doesnt feel plastic! like most newer cars.

deisel has a good options of units 2lt or 1.6l neither will make any difference on the insurance, or atleast when i got quotes for the range they didnt differ at all in a single penny. deisles have stop start technology with really low tax £35. per year + vat.

not much in the way of cabin noise deisel or petrol.

kia are also bringing out a new saloon soon.

Decent engines, Rubbish trim and rubbish electrics.

Father in law has a kia and the seat material is wearing thin with less than 70,000 miles.

    Several electrical issues.

The previous generation Kias were as described -- solid engines but weak car around them (they were cheaply-made Mazda-based cars after all, which explained the engine reliability).

The newer ones though (made after 2005) are a whole lot better. Essentially they are Hyundais, which have been good solid cars (much better than most European models) for quite a while now.

All current models are post-Hyundai takeover in design. The previous Rio, Sedona, Shuma etc were OK as cheap second-hand purchases but nothing more. The newer ones are only beaten for build quality by Japanese and some German-designed cars.

    Is it a Kia C'eed?

These are in a different league to some of the older designs.
