Anyone else's investments not doing too well in 2011?

S&S ISA is down about 3.5% and Pension around 2%
Only funds which are up are UK Property and European Equities.
Nothing exciting or too worrying given my risk profile, but I was wondering if this is happening to others too?

In the 3 weeks - FTSE is pretty much back where it started.
£ has got a bit stronger therefore reducing sterling values of overseas investments (if unhedged).
Like you, I'm a couple of percent down but it's no big deal. Some Japan funds fell by 4-5% in one day (Friday) so I could easily make it back or indeed, lose some more!0 -

No, it's not happening to anyone else fishbulg. Only your investments are tied to the investment markets and their returns. Everyone else's investments are tied to the price of candyfloss in Liberia, and that's booming.0 -

Ah that's why my Middle-East Fairground Index tracker was doing well.

My luck has also turned for the worse...
Last October, I bought into a fund that invested in Russia. At the beginning of the year it was up by more than 24 per cent, but now my profit has fallen to single figures -- just 9 point something per cent!
Even worse: I decided to buy into an ETF that invested in agri-business. A couple of times I set a limit price but the fund just kept on going up. Third time lucky: it came down low enough to meet my limit. Then it sank like a stone: 5 per cent loss in a couple of days! However, the tide has turned and now my loss is a mere 4.6 per cent.
Maybe I should move my savings into 'put' options on premium bonds!0 -

Liberia is in Africa.
Candy floss futures have slumped in the middle east. Coconut shy options, on the other hand, are forecast to surge this year, but only in Lebanon.
I can see you're a beginner to this investing thingamummyjig.
Stick with me pal, and it will all get easier.0 -

FTSE100 'peaked' at 5917.3 a little after 11.10 a.m. today. At 11.27 a.m. it is standing at 5902.5
I make that a loss of 0.25% per 15 minutes. That is cumulatively a loss of 8.15% per day. Or when repeated for a whole trading month, we lose 86% of value.
Hence I can reliably inform you that your investments will be worth exactly 14% of what they are worth now, if you leave them there for a further month.
All canny investors will therefore be selling straight away. Suggest you do the same.0 -

In that case, I smell some buying opportunities are on the horizon.0 -

Well I never!
It is now 12:15 and FTSE is at 5899.0 - a drop of only 3.5 points. Far smaller than I predicted. I'm flabbergasted! Perhaps my logic is wrong.
Maybe you can't draw conclusions from a short period when investing.....
So forgive my previous calculation. I'm afraid I got carried away and started using the same 'logic' as those idiots on the House Price issue...0
