WSL cheap DVD recorder

Tescos are currently selling the LITEON DD-A110 for about 68 quid

this is a home cinema recorder, not one for your pc

seems like a real bargain to me for what liteon describe as the smallest DVD recorder in the world

what do you think

Hi, I saw one of these instore the other day and it was in black and looked really nice. Not sure if it was the same model number but the price was the same.

If it is the same then according to the specs from the link in the first post it also plays back Divx files.

I was tempted by these when I saw them instore. I've seen reports that some earlier versions of the player had problems with playing discs on other systems, it seemed that discs recorded on the Liteon didn't always play smoothly on other standalone DVD players or PC DVD drives. This was supposed to have been fixed with a firmware update, and the update is available from the Liteon website ,so probably isn't worth worrying about.

I bought one of these. Main probs are prone to overheating and the 'divx' side of things is not very good ,very jerky picture. however they may issue a firmware upgrade but don't bank on it as its supposed to divx certified already .Its also fussy which blank media you use .Took mine back enentually
  • I purchased the DD-A110 model yesterday. I have run several tests trying different media (DVD+ DVD- DVDRW+ DVDRW -) with no problems. I copied from TV and SKY+box successfully and play the disc on two other DVD players and my PC with no problems.

For the money I think it is a good value DVD Recorder. An added bonus that is it is very small. Making it multi region is easy.

I think the important thing to remember is to finaise the disc on the recorder before attempting to play;) the disc on a different DVD Player or your PC.

Is this the tesco one you can transfer your DV to? I have one of the tiny DV cameras that use those digital card memory thingys and I can't seem to be able to download the film. I have to then buy lots of memory cards. It also has something to do with Mpeg4 or something!!!! Goodness knows but do you think this tesco one would work for this?

Like I said just watch the overheating prob. All was ok with me (apart from divx) but after I tried to record 4hours in one go it was flippin warm and eventaully gave up the ghost would not finalize discs.Allowed it to cool down overnight recorded 2 hours all ok .recorded 4 hours again machine really hot again and same prob wouldnt finalize. tried two different units and same prob. You take your chance i suppose but i've settled for the panasonic now no probs .M8 had had sismilar probs with an older liteon model
  • Yes you can transfer DV to this recorder via the front panel. Though I have not tried it!

With regards to DIVX works OK for me.

Can't you just plug the memory cards into a card reader and copy them to your PC? Or possibly a USB lead to transfer the files.

If your camcorder has a DV out socket you should be able to record straight to this DVD player. You should also be able to connect the DV out to a firewire port on your PC too, and use Windows Movie Maker etc to transfer the video.
