Tkmaxx do not charge for bags anymore - its a commercial descision as is the rationale to charge.

If you feel that you want to contribute more to the businesses profits then pay for your bags.

Have you seen their balance books recently, more profit on a lower unit turnover. You can only do that by putting prices up and charging for add-ons.

    Shareholders rule!!

Please be nice to all MoneySavers. That’s the forum motto. Remember the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue... a recent Guardian article “doffed its cap” to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back, our job is to help keep it that way.

I have been knocking around these forums for a while and have to say the word "juvenile" isnt in the least bit offensive bizzylizzyh. The poster had an opinion and I would hope this board will never silence those who wish to agree or disagree as long as it is done in a sensible and non-offensive way. :)
  • I just think the 1p or 5p is a good reminder to stop wasting bags and bring your own next time. You still get people who want a normal size carrier bag for a tiny item... that they then screw up and push in their pocket! If you're worried about looking like you haven't paid, brandish your receipt with the item.

When I was a little girl more than 60 years ago virtually every women who went shopping carried their own bags as a paper carrier bag cost 2d (1p) and a slightly stronger one with wooden handles cost 4d (2p).My own Mum had a string bag for vegatables which she had in her handbag, and often carried her own shoping bag with her as well.True in those days you didn't have the bulk buying that seems to go on today ,often because no storage facilities at home, no fridges or freezers in those days ,plus of course there was rationing to contend with so you were limited to the amount you could buy anyway. But if my Mum ever had to buy a paper carrier (not often as she was a frugal lady ) she would use it until it almost fell apart then it would be used as a fire lighter for our kitchen range.Nothing was ever wasted in thsoe days, recycling isn't a new thing, its been around for a lot longer than the eco-warriors :) I have a stash of bags for life of various sizes in my car and I never get out of the car if I am anywhere near a shop in case I have some 'impluse buys'
I would rather carry my own than have a plastic bag that
    a.costs me cash (I too am a frigal lady ) :)
    b. clutters up the world with plastic rubbish.
There is far too much junk being shifted around the world already .We ship god knows how much rubbish to the third world and clutter up their countries as well.
I have a bit of a thing about plastic wrapping and think that far too much stuff is wrapped unnecessarily.Cuecumber are not picked of the plants with plastic film wrapped around them.I try to use my local greengrocer if I can more than the supermarkets for this reason.I hate plastic wrapped food, and as for film wrapped ham well probably the film tases better than the ham inside .No I am happy if I have to to pay(doesn't happen often ) and as for advertising a shop well there are far worse things to care about in this world than a few words on a plastic bag
