Garmin I3 Sat Nav

Options
I recently bought one from Comet for my dh crimbo present.

We have a Galaxy with heated windscreen.

Other than the basic system will I need any special/additional antennae or accessories?

You may possibly need an external antenna, or to use it or the side window, but until you try it in the car you won't know for sure! My Garmin I3 will pick up a signal inside my house away from the windows, so you may be ok.

Ive got a focus with a heated windscreen and have absoloutly no problems using it without an external ariel - Certianly wouldnt buy one untill you have tried it first
  • The external antennas for the i3 are fairly cheap, but I'd defo test it first. It uses a MCX connector - what ever you do don't buy the Garmin one, they'll rip your eyes out for one, just so it has their name on it, much better looking for a Haicom or other third party branded version. I used a third party one on my old Navman, worked a treat.

A quick google search for 'haicom mcx' brought this up >> http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/haicom-mcx-external-antenna-description.html
  • I use a Garmin i3 in my Galaxy without any problem. The heated screen doesn't seem to affect it.

Some heated windscreens intefere with the ariel recieving the sat signal so an external antenna is needed for a clear view

i was aware of the winscreen interefering with the signal, do windscreens that have a film(something like an anti sun glare film) on the windscreen

  • both the screens with films on and the ones with a heating filliment can cause problems for GPS. That said the newer sat navs have sirf star 3 receivers that are more sensitive and do away with such problems...........they even work in a glove box!!
it's nice to be nice

the only reason i asked is that in my mums 307 the i3 sometimes takes a long time to find a satellite, it could be the weather i guess that takes it so long to get a satellite

Do you have any POIs? I have a load (PC World, Subway, McDonalds, castles, football grounds etc etc) - PM me and I can get you some sorted.
