I have never heard of a sensory assessment so don't know whether it a NHS assessment or not.

Even so I would look to see if it something that can be added to the Statement of Special Needs and therefore add pressure to a case for it being provided through the school/NHS services.

Also if the sensory assessment has been provided by the NHS and this has been identified as a need then it should be provided for as much as e.g. a wheelchair. Failure to provide would be a breach and you should take it up with the Primary Care Trust.

Ultimately, your concern isn't who should pay for it as long as it is paid for.
  • The sensory assessment was carried out by the asperger comunity team Im not sure if they are nurses of just case workers though, I'll ask when they are next here. Thanks for your responses!
  • if it helps anyone my son uses a horse blanket. its large, heavy and cost around £40 from a horse riding equipment shop. he cant sleep without it ( even on melatonin)

  • Something else for you to try.
Does your daughter have a duvet on her bed at night??

Try switching to making her bed with blankets.
My daughter with Aspergers liked a weighted blanket, but also liked the feeling of being tucked in firmly at night, it gave her that same feeling of pressure.
I would make her bed up, then use a final blanket folded in half lengthways, that I would tuck firmly in and there would be plenty either side to fit under the mattress.

    regards
