    Hi all

I'd like to rejoin you, lots of the oldies know me well. We're into a relatively good pattern now here and so I'd like to start getting on top of the housework again so DH doesn't end up doing it all at weekends. I will aim to get as much as I can of my lists done in the baby's morning nap. I absolutely love being a mummy and everyone says I have taken to it well!

I've had a bit of an up and down few months, difficult end of pregnancy, traumatic delivery and baby rushed to scbu after stopping breathing when 4 hours old (was v cold and in shock from the general anaesthetic I'd ended up having). Plus numerous other complications I've had and I've just found out that work are not renewing my contract so I have no job to go back to (whilst I'd happily be a sahm we can't afford it at all). So I'm rather up and down emotionally and a bit gutted to be spending my mat leave looking for a job!

    So, my list:

Monday ~ Kitchen, Utility and Dining areas
    Level One
    Sweep and mop floors
    Declutter and wipe worksurfaces
    Level Two
    Wipe ALL large appliances
    Clean blinds/curtains and light shades
Clean out fridge.. use up those almost passed their best things
    Shine sink and taps
    Level Three
Throw away 10 items from each room!
Wipe and replace all small appliances
    My own extras:
    photograph stuff to sell online
    meal plan
    student loan deferment
    job application
    pack away LO's outgrown clothes

I'm still here... dealing with stuff but using it as an excuse to avoid doing any flying (or exercise, or eating properly...). Saw ex/OH on Tuesday and a lot of stuff got sorted. Those of you with KHs who don't consider their children will probably be relieved to hear that there is at least one who is putting his children first (although he reckons they'll ask him to move out soon as he's making them do homework, cutting off the supply of ready cash their mother seemed to think they needed and expecting to know where they are and who they are with...).

We're going to have some time apart (although working together 12+ hours a day makes the idea a little strange... good thing its online/phone working!) while he sorts things out (although he says he gets grumpy when his son has his girlfriend over as it isn't fair!). He's taken lots of stuff from the flat back with him, which as most of it was old stuff of mine apparently makes him feel better. We start travelling for work in March, so we're working towards being able to be friends by then.

I am amazed by the amount of time I have now :o. The house isn't spotless, but it doesn't degenerate into chaos as I have time to get the basics done most days. I've had friends over lots, been out lots (cinema on a weekday, waterbabies with my nephew on saturday, staying with a friend over the weekend) and have lots more planned. Lots of energy is being diverted into work... including making my boss's life miserable :) by asking him to explain stuff. Keep your fingers crossed for me, as his boss has promised to sort out some issues for me and I should find out in a week or so whether he's resolving it with a promotion and payrise. I didn't whinge or moan about life being unfair. I just presented him with data from the metrics they claim to use to assess us...

This week work is on US time so I'm hoping to use my free mornings to get some walking in and do some odds and ends of flying that have escaped notice. Running is off the agenda as I've injured my calf and its being treated.

First batch of test results (smear) back clear, but still haven't been able to go for the blood tests... I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant, just suffering the after effects from December, but I promised myself I wouldn't test for a month so I'd stop stressing. Two weeks to go...

Hopefully normal service will be resumed soon. Thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes.

Hugs and prayers to all those having such a hard time at the moment.

I know many of you have small people to work round and that can be majorly challenging, but to be honest I'm really struggling with flying cos I work full time. Not a problem if I have a free evening but many evenings I leave the house at 8am (usually only have time to put a wash on, empty dishwasher or similar before I go), back at 6pm and then often go out within the hour. Somebody please make me some time!

Do you have any secrets of fitting it all in?
I used to leave the house at 6.30, get back 7/8ish depending on traffic (or later if I'd been out... no point in going back at that time). The only saving grace was that at least two meals, if not three were eaten out of the house.
    • batch cook and meal plan - use the SC and either chuck stuff in at night so its done in the morning (best in winter, it can cool during the day and be ready to deal with next evening) or prep the stuff the night before and switch it on before you leave for work so you have a meal ready when you get home and can portion up and fridge/freeze before you go to bed
    • before you leave in the morning make sure all washing up etc is either in the DW or stacked in the sink if you don't have time to wash it up. I have porridge in the mornings, so can get quite a bit done while its cooking; as you go downstairs first thing take anything that's upstairs and shouldn't be with you and vice versa. As you go round opening curtains, clear up bits and pieces moving them to the correct rooms. Clean the shower after use & hang up towels or put in the laundry bin if needed. Take the rubbish out as you head out of the door.
    • when you get home - shove a load of washing in so it can be dried/hung up before bed (in the summer, put the washing on at bed time and hang out before you leave for work... if it gets an extra rinse, so be it!)
    • evening routine - clear the floordrobe while getting ready for bed. wipe the basin after teeth cleaning, clean the loo after your last visit of the evening so that it can disinfect overnight. Set off DW if full ready to be emptied at the crack of dawn. Fling all grubby clothes in the laundry basket. Make breakfast/lunch to take to work. Take next day's meal out of freezer.
    • Do ironing while watching TV
    • Use a telephone headset on your mobile/cordless phone so that you can clean while talking to people rather than sitting down.
    • Sort post when it arrives/you step on it as you come in
Now I work from home all the time it complicates things somewhat as its more difficult to have a routine in many ways. But it does also mean that I can do odds and ends in the 5 or 10 minutes between meetings. Then again... if I couldn't work from home I wouldn't still be trying to get stuff done at this time of night...

Hugs to everyone who needs or wants one. I have decided to stop reading the thread for a while so I can get back on top of flying. Please don't think me rude but it is a distraction that I do not need while I am on my decluttering mission, when it gets easier I will have a nose or if I get bored!

I set the timer for 45 minutes earlier and got quite a bit done.

"stash above & beyond life expectancy" Short bird I had to laugh with recognition at that:o. I need to be brave and chuck some stuff.

Lil me - that timing tasks idea is good. A few months ago I timed how long it takes to put new duvet/sheet/pillows on because it is always a job we hate and leave to late in the day (having stripped the old ones in the morning). It means I can then say, if we work fast, it only takes 7 mins, and it gets us going and it is soon done.

Sockdrawer: hope the light treatment is working. I'm not allowed any more myself.

While running the bath (calf being treated needs soaking in epsom salts) I have sorted the dirty laundry and have a load ready for the morning; sorted the clean laundry in the airing cupboard and put it away (or ready to go downstairs in the case of gym kit & napkins); sorted the latest load of stuff from the dryer and folded some of ironing and the rest to go in the airing cupboard. I also cleaned the bath with a microfibre cloth before running it as I just spray and rinse after showers, so it was nice and clean (ready to be made dirty again!) and put away a few clothes that were on my bed. Took all foreign objects out of the sitting room before leaving it earlier, and sorted rubbish/recycling in the kitchen before coming upstairs.

I may not be making things cleaner, but I'm stopping them getting worse...

    Hi everyone,

Hugs, prayers, spoons and sticks as required for all help yourselves.

I've not read all the thread, so I'm sorry if I've missed anything.:o

Flying very gently today, as I'm still a bit lurgyfied.

DH had a hospital appointment today, to see the Orthopedic Surgeon about a knee replacement. (waiting for 7 years now)

CT scan shows not a lot of bone at the centre of the fracture site. ( a motorcycle accident left him with an injury similar to a bad parachute landing).

He now has a large black dog trapsing round after him, pain and general feeling carp is really bugging him, he's been telling them that the knee doesn't "feel" right for ages, but the X-rays show nothing wrong, (can't see inside like a CT can).

Sorry to offload on you peeps, many need your supportmore than I.:o

Pleased someones finding timing useful and someone else is as geeky

Rach & Greenbee nice to see both of you back x
Rach I'm guessing you've worked out childcare costs, travel, convenience things that may occur like using more disposables etc when it comes to wages? I know for many it doesn't work out cost effective which is an utter disgrace but the way it is :( I remember JillD and Michelle making those calculations x

I've not had a hugely productive day as felt a little too stressy after school meeting to do much then ended up helping DP with his homework so I'm a level oner.....not great. We're supposed to be going to look at a car tomorrow but DPs undecided now, men eh!

Right, bed time me thinks as I've had 3 hours kip *yawn* well when the naughty boys finally go to sleep, 10 minutes ago DP lost the plot a little, didn't shout but he's had the same amount of sleep
One day I might be more organised...........
