iPhone instead of Broadband?

I'm looking into the possibility of getting an iPhone instead of getting home broadband.
Is it in any way a viable alternative to actually having broadband on laptop?
Can you done online shopping (Grocery etc.) with it?
Is the expense worth it? Being almost £400 if I am to upgrade to it early.

you still have to pay for access, for example on o2 you only get 500mb free access, then you have to pay. Mobile broadband will always be more expensive than fixed.
BT are doing very cheap broadband currently0
