Just broadband without phone?

Hi there,

I'm looking for unlimited broadband without a phone line. Any advice? Is it even possible? I never use a landline but do use broadband pretty much constantly.
I currently have a BT landline plus BT Total Broadband Option 1 and I'm exceeding my 10GB limit.

If it's useful; our block of flats also has a communal Sky dish on the roof (although I'm not a customer), I use 3 for my mobile and Virgin isn't available.

I've also checked and we don't have great speeds in our area - BT Infinity isn't going to be rolled out here and we currently clock about 5mbps.

Thanks all

  • I've just switched to BE Broadband (from Orange). Very pleased with the service so far.

You can get £40 cashback via quidco too so may be worth checking out and see what kind of speeds you can get in your area. :)

re: the no phone line - I'm pretty sure every broadband provider will require a landline of somesorts. Unless you can get cable?

No phone line means either using a dongle or satellite connection service .Unlimeted going to be very very expensive that way .

Phone line from any supplier you pay rental for the line though it may be reduced in a package deal .
Check your exchange for ISPs via samknows .

No cable available where I am unfortunately... and maybe it isn't as bad as I thought but my contract is about to end and my bills are regularly over £100 a quarter for a landline which is unused and the broadband together so I thought it wouldn't hurt to get some advice.

Sam knows says the following services are available in my location
    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
    BT Wholesale SDSL
    AOL LLU
    O2 / Be LLU
    Bulldog LLU
    TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
    Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
    Tiscali LLU

I'd also like to avoid traffic management which could slow me down while online so advice on which of the above might suit me best would be tops!

AOL / Tiscali /Talk Talk are all the same.

02 has good reviews, if you are a Sky TV subscriber that will be the cheapest.

O2 or Sky from that list. I'm on Sky and they definitely don't throttle bandwidth at busy times. And you'll need a land line installed, it's the only way to get their broadband, seeing as you don't live in a cabled area.

BT line rental is not £100 per quarter, it is £13.60 per month on the cheapest current package. What tariff are you on to be paying £33.33 a month if you make no calls?
No line rental= no ADSL broadband.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

In fact you can get BT line rental for the equivalent of £10/ month if you pay 12 months up front.
