Dell Studio 15 Laptop wont read DVD anymore

    I presume the drive itself is the one where you just push the DVD into the side of the machine and it grabs it and pulls it in?

    Don't think the OP can do that with that style of drive Hammy, could try a dvd lens cleaner disc.

    Ran the dell Express test and got a Error Code: 0F00:133C Msg Disc read error, check the desk. !!!!!!ed drive?

    Am having a tech nightmare today my dad rang while I was running the test to say he's got a virus on his pc and it won't let run the Internet or malwarebytes, will save that for another post tomorrow.

    Can't really tell you any more. The drive was replaced both times under warranty on my sons.

    I meant disk not desk :)

    Anyway checked my warranty and it doesn't run out till till April which is lucky, will be ringing Dell tonight when I get home. Thanks for everyones help.

    Can't really tell you any more. The drive was replaced both times under warranty on my sons.

    Phantom were they able to fix it at home or did it have to go away? May need to look at ways to back up the laptop?
  • It was done at home, but that was because the warranty was upgraded from '1 year Return to Base' to a '3 year at home' for free because they messed up the original order.

    Because of the way they out-source their support, we had different guys come both times.

    E-mailed Dell last night while sorting out my dad's pc, just got this rely from them, not what I hoped they'd say but might be worth a go hope I won't lose any data

    Thank you for contacting Dell E-mail Hardware Technical Support.

    I have reviewed your email and found that CD is playing, while the DVD is not playing on the drive.
    I regret the inconvenience and assure you of quick resolution.

    Here, I would request you to follow the below mentioned steps in order to get the root cause of the issue.

    Please update BIOS and firmware.

    Step: 1

    Steps to update BIOS:

    1. Please make sure that both Battery and AC Adapter are plugged into the system.
    2. Visit the link mentioned below:
    !!!!!!!http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&os=WLH&osl=en&Service!!!!!DHJN94J&catid=-1&impid=-1

    3. Click on the ?DOWNLOAD? button under BIOS option.
    4. Save the file on the desktop after completing the download.
    5. Now RUN the file saved on desktop.
    6. After you RUN the file system will restart and the BIOS will be automatically updated.

    Step:2

    Steps to update firmware:

    1. Please make sure that both Battery and AC Adapter are plugged into the system.
    2. Visit the link mentioned below:

    5. Now RUN the file saved on desktop.
    6. After you RUN the file system will restart and the firmware will be automatically updated.

    Please check if the DVD works fine on VLC player as well
