Being released from a tesco broadband contract early?

Hi, we have been with tesco broadband for almost a year, from day one we have been unhappy, the internet cuts out frequently or is REALLY slow, its impossible to watch any videos as the upload speeds are so dire tonight on a test the upload speed was 38kbps. At least 3 times now we have totally lost connection for a few days and i have had to call the helpline to sort this out. I believe that i stupidly took out a 2 year contract but we are desperate to leave for a better service elsewhere. The last time we lost connection i asked if it was possible for us to be released from contract and was told that it was at the engineers discretion if they thought they had tried everything to solve the problem and still the internet was poor then i could be released. Is there anyway i can leave without having to pay a release fee?
