dwp payment of £2000 ?????

hi, ive recently returned to work after being on benefit for a year. im working 16 hours a week and am now entitled to the usual ctc and wtc. i have 3 kids and am a single parent. ive had my new award thru which all seems normal. im also getting the back to work bonus and in work credit.
anyway i go to my bank on tuesday just gone to discover the dwp have put a £2080 lump sum in my account. ive had no letters as of yet. i checked with the bank and asked if they knew which department it had come from. they say all it says is dwp*123567*hsbc? normally they say ctc or wtc. i cant get hold of them as theyre always too busy and it justs cuts off and tells me to try again. im presuming its not a taxcredit payment but some other dwp payment, but which?
who do i call , what do i do. if its genuinely mine then hooray brilliant i could really use it but if not i need to find out what i gotta do. dont wanna spend something thats not mine.
thanks in advanced

Firstly, congrats for finding employment. Secondly, goes without saying l suppose try not to spend it until they confirm no error, fingers crossed they do.0

thanks , its just occured to me that the in work credit payments of £40 a week total £2080 for the year ! is it possible they could have paid me that in full ? or have they done it by mistake ? stilll unsure if its even from them. but i will def write to them like you say goffo
at least i can cover my back there.

Could you have been underpaid in the past?0

It does sound like the in work credit payments. The reference number is similar to mine, I have recieved payments since october.
They get paid weekly for 13 weeks, then they check your payslips and payments restart again for a further 13 weeks and so on for a year.
I'd give them a ring, it does sound like an error, the money is correct but the frequency is wrong, wonder if you will get another payment next week of a similar quantity, lol!:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
i almost choked with the first payment so if another one went in id most definately pop it on the spot.
im sure i am meant to send them my wage slips to prove i am still in work. ive been working for 3 weeks now and have had no in work credit payments as of yet (other than the £2080?) and i get paid monthly so ive not even had a wage slip.
im hoping it not an error as my account has never been so high before, it feels great. down side is the amount of calls im getting from the bank now my balance has gone up, trying to get me to open savings n such.
ive searched the web trying to find other people who had had a similar thing happen after returning to work but i cant find anything.
its starting to make me feel ill not knowing where its from.0 -

I would say that someone has incorrectly entered a recent date as Jan 2010 on a computer system. This has triggered a whole years payment of In Work Credit (52*40=2080) as the system believes you have been in work for a whole 12 months.0 -
and its possible i could have been underpaid but i wouldnt know when lol0

you could argue that but you would lose!
yhere is no reason for the OP to think that there is a plausible reason why she should think that she is entitled to over 2k in one deposit!
don't touch it OP until you know what it's for!0 -
blue22 that seems like a very logical idea there. think i will have to give them a call monday morning to sort this out, will be annoyed in having to give it all back but at least i will also get it back eventually albiet in smaller more frequent payments.0
