Odyssey Parking BE WARNED

I'm trying to work out if I'm an inconsiderate moron or an ignorant twit - probably both :eek:So, instead of "the inconsiderate morons" behaving like responsible citizens, we should all bow to them and change our lives to accommodate the ignorant twits who infest our lives everyday?
All I know is if other people behaved responsibly when opening their car doors, I wouldn't have needed to spend money getting my car doors fixed in the past.0 -
I have heard that some motorists seek out such cars and deliberately park next to them, believing that, if the other car gets damaged, then so be it.I'll hold my hand up and say that I'm one of those unloved people who deliberately takes 2 spaces when parking, although only if the car park is half-empty, and even then I park a good bit away from the other cars and walk for an extra 30 seconds.
The reason? I was sick of having my car damaged over the years by inconsiderate people who fling open their door, and don't care that their damage costs me money - either if I pay to get the dents repaired, or when I come to sell their car.
So yes, "precious" is a good word for it - I accept accidents do happen, and that sometimes the wind can catch a door and push it fully open, but I've also this damage happen when people show how little they care for other peoples' property.
I wish spaces were wider, but at the end of the day the supermarkets/shopping centres/etc. want to get as many cars in as possible. So I'll happily take 2 spots and walk that bit further. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
And as they are not legaly enforceable, I'm sure he will lose a lot of sleep.
Cheers, Des.
That depends on the car park. You beat me to it! It's been a while since I've parked at the Odyssey, but I certainly haven't seen any mention of fines in Tescos or Sainsburys car park for taking up two spots.
I wonder what happens if the car gets towed away. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Have you honestly ever seen a sign stating that a car will be towed away if it is taking up two spots? That depends on the car park.

People using P&T or disabled spots when they shouldn't be are actively inconveniencing people, as are those who can't park very well and take 2 spots in amongst other cars.
I honestly can't see how me using 2 spots nowhere near any other cars is hurting anyone; if nothing else, I've freed up a spot nearer the entrance for someone else to use.0 -

Therein lies the issue - you cannot see anything wrong with it - but what if (and im using the title of the thread as an example) you park up at the far end of the odyssey car park thinking you are 'hurting nobody', you toddle off to work happy in the knowledge your little precious is safe for the day, but alas you didnt realise there was a concert on during the day and the car park starts to fill up. Now can you see how this could annoy other motorists....
PS - do you use your indicators when turning off the road? Ah sure why bother - your not hurting anyone if you dont............ :doh:0 -
As a matter of yes I have, several times. In many Central London car parks (and many other city centres), for example, this threat is commonplace.Have you honestly ever seen a sign stating that a car will be towed away if it is taking up two spots?

Funnily enough, I actually did use to park at the Odyssey during the day, and I only took up one space. It's only at supermarkets where I take two spots - I've seen a number of cars being damaged as people struggle to get the shopping from the trolley into the car. Given that I tend to get in and out of a supermarket ASAP, I seriously doubt all the spots between my car and the rest of them will fill up in that time.
I'm now lucky enough to have a numbered spot in the car park at work, where you'll be pleased to know I park neatly between the lines.
As for indicators, thanks for asking. You'll be surprised to know that I do use them, and unlike a lot of drivers I also don't use drive with my front fog lights on during the day - as you're getting personal, I thought I'd pre-empt your next question.0 -
Fair enough - I've never driven in London, but I'll watch out for them. If there was such a sign up I would abide by it - thanks for the heads-up.As a matter of yes I have, several times. In many Central London car parks (and many other city centres), for example, this threat is commonplace.0 -

These tend to be flash shiny BMWs, Mercedes, Range Rovers, basically every expensive model you can think of. And when I see the people parking them or getting back into them they are invariably middle aged men. I parked at the end of a row this morning carefully easing myself in tight to a wall to leave a little extra room to get out on the driver side only to have some idiot in a Range Rover park over the line to leave him/herself even more room on his/her drivers side. I was so tempted to scrape my briefcase along his/her paintwork instead of lifting it above the car as I had to!
well, I always work on the grounds that the little old ladies in the tiny cars park untidily because they are nervous drivers. Whereas people such as these park untidily because they are considerably richer than me and consider themselves too important to abide by the rules that us mere mortals tend to live by......:D (PS I have one such within my own family and she (yes, this one is a she) will violate any traffic rule you care to mention, park anywhere that it says not to, and drive over the top of anyone who gets in her way.....just because she is in a massive car, and she can )0 -
Agree totally Snoozle - who is worse - the little old lady or man who "can't" park properly or the Sloane Ranger who "won't"?0
