Odyssey Parking BE WARNED

I'll hold my hand up and say that I'm one of those unloved people who deliberately takes 2 spaces when parking, although only if the car park is half-empty, and even then I park a good bit away from the other cars and walk for an extra 30 seconds.

The reason? I was sick of having my car damaged over the years by inconsiderate people who fling open their door, and don't care that their damage costs me money - either if I pay to get the dents repaired, or when I come to sell their car.

So yes, "precious" is a good word for it - I accept accidents do happen, and that sometimes the wind can catch a door and push it fully open, but I've also this damage happen when people show how little they care for other peoples' property.

I wish spaces were wider, but at the end of the day the supermarkets/shopping centres/etc. want to get as many cars in as possible. So I'll happily take 2 spots and walk that bit further.

You will deserve all the fines you get in that case.

And as they are not legaly enforceable, I'm sure he will lose a lot of sleep.

You beat me to it! It's been a while since I've parked at the Odyssey, but I certainly haven't seen any mention of fines in Tescos or Sainsburys car park for taking up two spots.

No but Forestside will clamp your car if you're parked in a P&T without a toddler in tow. I think they call it the Okey Dokey monster :rotfl: I'm not sure if they clamp in disabled spaces but I have a funny feeling I've seen signs about a £50 release fee.

I have no problem with that whatsoever - I've got a disabled relative who needs to make use of the disabled spots, so I fully support clamping those drivers who take either a P&T or a disabled spot, when in fact they're just too lazy to walk from a regular spot.

I'm not saying I ALWAYS take two spots, I'll only do so if there are plenty of empty ones, and even then I'll leave a large number of free spots between my car and the rest of the parked ones. I'm only trying to explain the rationale for taking two spots, i.e. it has cost me money in the past when my car doors have been dented while parked in a single spot.

It really does pee me off, when I see a lazy beggar just drive into a space, not make sure they parked correctly and walk away from their car, whilst parked diagonally across two spaces. I am sorry to say that it is usually women who do it (tin hat well and truly on :D). Very often in very small cars, like a Nissan Micra or Renault Clio.

I park in a Belfast multi-storey car park every day and on every floor there are several cars parked taking up 2 spaces. These tend to be flash shiny BMWs, Mercedes, Range Rovers, basically every expensive model you can think of. And when I see the people parking them or getting back into them they are invariably middle aged men. I parked at the end of a row this morning carefully easing myself in tight to a wall to leave a little extra room to get out on the driver side only to have some idiot in a Range Rover park over the line to leave him/herself even more room on his/her drivers side. I was so tempted to scrape my briefcase along his/her paintwork instead of lifting it above the car as I had to!

Last time Mrs. Redped & I checked, I was definitely a he.

Perhaps you're confusing me with those people who take up 2 spots near the entrance, parked at 45 degrees only because they couldn't be bothered to straighten up their wheels.

Whereas I'll be the one parked at the far end of the car park, neatly parallel to (and over :)) the white lines, hopefully without any dents in my car.

While I understand your frustration, parent and child spaces are simply a courtesy provided by the supermarkets. I personally think P&T spaces be done away with and instead supermarkets/shopping centres should re-think the sizes of ALL parking spaces and adjust them so that the inconsiderate morons who park in the middle of 2 spaces stop feeling the need to do so

Had you taken the advice given by the supermarket to use a disabled space I guarantee someone else would have complained about you but again these spaces are only provided by courtesy and have no legal standing (if it is a private car park)
So, instead of "the inconsiderate morons" behaving like responsible citizens, we should all bow to them and change our lives to accommodate the ignorant twits who infest our lives everyday?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
