OP - Just ignore the sarcastic and uncalled for comments.
You did the right thing using the law to your advantage.
If more people took the power that they have and demonstrated that we are not going to be pushed around, the government would have to look to themselves more when drafting legislation.

You know, I'm all for protecting people who have overpayments through no fault of their own, but this kind of scenario makes it more difficult for those people.
I fail to see how this has been written off when it is a joint claim.
And that is a massive amount too!
If you were single, I'd understand it more, but your OH should have been held responsible for that money.0
