Its also in landlords interest to get insulation and now have to provide energy assessment plus they can get tax benefits and retain decent tenants

Under section 312, Income Tax (Trading and Other Income) Act 2005 (ITTOIA), landlords who pay income tax may claim a deduction, the LESA, against profits for expenditure to install loft insulation or cavity wall insulation in a dwelling house which they let. This was extended to cover solid wall insulation in regulations made in 2005 (the Energy-Saving Items Regulations 2005 – Statutory Instrument 2005/1114). The maximum amount which may be claimed is limited to £1,500 per building.

op your base usage sounds incorrect ie too low. I have one and and a half A class fridges and a tall new freezer plus a couple of bits like the ventilation stack fan (eco house) and my base reading on an owl is about 190, with a light on

My cost in electricity since june 2010 is £180 and I cook everything from scratch but wash on cold when possible. You will find that any heat-producing device gobbles up the electricity. My tip is to watch dvds on a laptop and if possible to watch live iplayer on a laptop too as the tv takes a lot of energy

Your readings are too low, check the connections and test with a known load.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Okay, the kettle;

    Says 2500-3000W

I was reading 140Watts before putting it on.

When it's on, full of cold water, it reads 2390W

Is it looking like it might be accurate?

    I'm at 136Watts now.

Got the TV on, 1 lamp, 1 hallway light, BT hub and landline phone, boiler is not running.
    9/70lbs to lose :)

The kettle is brand new, so it should work okay.

The monitor says my current daily useage is 1.4kWh

It's been a quiet day at home so far, so this would be a lower use day.

You can quite easily find out by turning your kettle upside down (best done when empty of course ;)). The power rating will be shown on the plate underneath.
PS: the power it draws does not vary whether you fill it to minimum or maximum-its just reaches the boil more quickly if part-full.
I'm guessing that you have a 2kW kettle.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes indeed its all looking good, best of luck with the economy drive.

Tip, take daily electricity readings over a couple of days and see how they compare with the monitor.

If you want to monitor your gas use a site like www.imeasure.org.uk and input weekly meter reads.

Not unless your electricity bill is only around 14p per day! As already stated, these devices are simply not accurate at this level-your meter will show you exactly what your daily usage is.

That is a reading per hour. kWh.

    It's up to 2.0 now.

I stated above, the kettle says it's 2500-3000Watts.

I can plug it into my computer and get weekly/monthly readings and graphs via Southern Electric website, so after a week I can see the difference :D
