Any good tips on 2nd hand car buying
Wish I could be on that programme with dom on bbc where he talks them through buying a car with headpeice.
Went to 2garages other day
1st one no one approached us.
2nd sales person did.
seen car we liked same model in both garages prices up same 5999 wondering how much ours would part exchange and more importantly how much they willing to knock off screen price.
in 2nd garage had demo and sat down discussed figures.
Maybe because he thinks im clueless woman.
offered 900 for bmw of doom we buy any car offer 690 so pleased with that.
But most he could knock off was 150quid. reckons will shift easily as nice car.
went home checked out autotrader and found dame model less milage at 2 different garges this time priced at 4500.
We think we want the vw touran 7seater just getting it at right price.
So far my dads advice is
always car shop end of month when they have targets to hit.
Tell 1 garage what other is offering and play them off against each other.
purchase on subject of aa or rac check.
try negociate least 6months tax and years mot
ask for tank of petrol and free mats:rotfl:
Be prepared to walk away and go back few times to show serious interest and wear them down.
I thourght I played it cool other day. made it clear would be part exchange plus cash which thourght would be better than finace but 150quid off seemed pathetic when screen price seems overpriced anway.
How do I get the best price. I better at bartering than hubby.
I know I need to be very confifdent and cheeky.
How does everyone else approach car buying.
Got ripped off over last car dont even think hubby tried to negociate.

If you say too dear and go away then come back it may work against you, They know you WANT that
car then.
Buy the end of the month? What if they are already way over target will prices increase?
Best price as you already said be cheeky, If you dont ask you dont get. How are you paying?
If they arrange finance they get commission so can reduce the price a bit, But you pay interest
which would be worth a lot more.
Cash payment, Goto the one garage and explain youve seen 2 cars, Dont tell them where though.
Say your going to buy one of them today and its all about how much cash you have to fork out.
Doesnt matter how they work it, Better part ex price or reduction in screen price, Its all about how deep you
need to dig into your pockets for the difference.
If its on finance you need to be more careful with the deposits and final fees, Monthly payments etc.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My advice isn't in relation to negotiating but it's something I've just fallen foul of.
Do your checks on the vehicle before putting down a deposit. We've just put a deposit down on a car and carried out a check (after parting with the deposit money) and have now found out that the car was an insurance write off and our insurance company will not insure us.
So play it safe and pay £20 to get some checks carried out. Could save you thousands!0 -
When i bought one of my cars, it was put up at £5500. I had my old man with me (mechanic) who was all over the car like a rash, checking it all out. occasionally he'd come over to me and whisper something, usually "all good" but it put the dealer on edge a little.
the dealer kept telling me that the price had dropped already from £6000, he thought i was buying on finance.
I offered £4500 cash, and eventually negotiated to £5000 (i wasnt part exchanging a car). he MOT'd it, put 12 months tax in the window and had it ready to be driven away on the Monday (we shook hands on Friday afternoon).0
