As the hotmail address was I considered disposable I had no qualms in closing it and using another disposable from gmail.
Or simply set-up the gmail account to collect all that mail - not only will it reply as if it's the hotmail account, you keep the address but benefit from gmails vastly superior spam filtering.0 -

I either delete or mark as phishing but this seems to produce more immediate of the same not less. Any suggestions how I can dispense with 'facebook - be my friend', lengthening parts of my body, 'asking for details for sites I have never visited' and more of the same.
I look forward to receiving advice of what to do to reduce these, I know I can get rid of them altogether but why do they increase when I delete or mark as phishing.
Thanks.
'Forward' your email to a Gmail account, then simply 'Forward' your email back to Hotmail again. Leave it for a couple of months until it 'cleans' your email and those scammers are reported or cleaned. Its a simpler way of say using spamcop of which there are two versions one where you 'forward' your email through their servers and it 'cleans' the spam mail as suggested already, or you sign up for one of their accounts and use that.
