High blood pressure

  • I have always had problems with digital blood pressure machines, until a few months ago I had never had one able to get a reading on me but at this particular appointment at the local hospital they didn't have a manual one so we tried the digital one and it got a reading, it was so bad I was told to go to the GP within the week and have it checked again and I'd probably be put on meds.. They couldn't fit me in that week so I went at the earliest non emergency appointment where they used a manual device and I was told, much to my relief, that I was a bit higher than my usual rate but nothing to be alarmed about. I've since been checked again and it hasn't been cause for concern.... During the time between the hospital and the GP check I had really started to worry myself about the long term consequences of this (I'm only 22) so I can completely understand what it's like to go through.

    good point Formaldehyde - I have a large upper arm and if a "regular" manual blood pressure monitor ( sorry can't spell sphigmamometer!) is used on my arm the reading is ALWAYS high whereas if they use a large cuff - they get a much better reading and a more accurate measure

    OP- hope your next reading is better - if not, hope your GP gets your medication sorted

    I went back after a week and took further readings. This is on the DIY m/c in the waiting room).

    144/93
    142/96

    then I got the folowing 2 readings;

    118/51
    114/52

    all taken at 3 min intervals at a pulse rate 79 to 82 and without moving or even talking to anyone.

    The 1st 2 were very similar to the results that alarmed my gp, just slightly lower but the descrepancy between those and the last 2 needs explaining??

    Back in next week so I'll diy then ask him to check the traditional way this time,:T
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
