Got a shock yesterday, had my blood pressure taken at work and it's a lot higher than I expected 147/94. Resting rate 77.

I'm hoping it was a bad measure and will get to the doc's to get it checked again.

Few years ago I was a picture of health. Gym training, black belt, running, regular CV work etc etc.

Then I changed job and started working shifts away from home. Long hours, nights, takeaway most nights...to be fair I ate bad before but burned it off.

Anyway, still in shock and planning to get more regular use of the cycle this year.

ps. Should add I'm 30.

  • Have you been more stressed or worried about things than usual as things like that can effect your blood pressure?
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I suppose we have just had Xmas & been eating/drinking more than usual.

    Egypt is lovely, very relaxing.

    Where are you going?

  • Sultan Gardens in Sharm.

Got a good rating on Trip advisor so I'm going with high expectations!
  • It looks lovely, im sure you will have a fab time.

I went here http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g297555-d316687-Reviews-Lti_Tropicana_Grand_Azure-Sharm_El_Sheikh_South_Sinai_Red_Sea_and_Sinai.html & it was amazing.

The beaches in Sharm are gorgeous & the fish swimming around your feet in the sea are beautiful.

    I'm jealous now. :rotfl:

i was going to the gym every day running ever other day working 12 hr continental shifts no worrys or stress...
then i was at a fate and there was a blood pressure health check tent there, so i went in to see how "fit" i was......welllll omg.
my bp was 195 /120 resting i felt fine no symtoms , they told me to see the doc asap, so i went and was put on tabs straight away now averaging 120 /70 :-)
i was 32 at the time and was build like a brick sh** house with almost no fat!
just goes to show high bp is a silent killer with no symtoms:eek:

That's a bit, as in a lot to high for a 30 year old.

Sorry op, I don't mean to frighten but it is.

The 1st question is are getting medical attention???

My point is that I'm a 58 year old with a very recent history of mild high blood pressure. It was normal 12 months ago due to medication. But, I didn't get it checked for about a year and the figures were very similar th yours, ie, 153 over 101 at a pulse rate of 70. He went ballistic and doubled my medicaton and ordered me back in a week, which is Monday, Sorry.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

my gp said i was lucky i had not damaged my eyes as mine was so high, we both had no idea how long it had been like it ?maybe all my life?
but with no symtoms bp checks should be routine as it is so easily treated..
high blood pressure is not a condition just for old or over weight..
it is asilent and deadly killer at any age.....

i say everyone get it checked every year no matter what age you are or if you appear fit and healthy

Agreed, my doc said, when i said, "i have had no symptoms??"

"that's the problem there are no symptoms, just the stroke""

I think he made his point, :A

Well I also agree with BP checking, my husband was 13 stone. height 5foot 9, very fit, strong, worked 12 hours per day as abuilder, never smoked only had can a beer perhaps twice a week, normal BP at 120.............he had massive stroke 2 yrs ago at 49 yrs old , which has left him disabled, he was in hospital for 10 months on life support and brain surgery , left side hemiplegia.......and now epilepsy do to brain injury........

So yea I agree to keep check on your BP, but it wasnt high BP that led to my husbands stroke, you just dont know whats round the corner............
