  • I'd hate it.

But then again, the extended family (eg, boyfriend's psychopathic sister's boyfriend and their feral brood) is so untrustworthy, I'd be saving time to just fill in the insurance claim forms before I left.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I would be livid. I dont class my mums extended family as my family.

If she wants to show off her grandkids then she can do it in her own home.

I would be annoyed that I wasn't consulted until after the invitations went out.

At the end of the day, were I in this situation, I would appreciate the help from my parents and it would be unlikely if they asked me if they could have some friends or family members over that I would say no but at the same time I would want to know exactly who was going to be invited before any invites went out, so I could nix any problem cases before it became a problem.

I'm sure most people have one or two people in their extended families that they don't get along with for various reasons and wouldn't like in their homes.

Furthermore, if there are going to be quite a few children there, it is only fair to ask before invites go out as it gives further time to prepare to remove anything valuable, fragile or dangerous from the clumsy reaches of young children.

I think it's a bit odd to have a family gathering at your house without you ..............unless you don't speak to that part of the family (and then it'd be even weirder to have it at your house).

In the interests of tact I'd probably tell them that you were a bit disappointed to be excluded from the gathering and if your parents had mentioned it to you first a way to include everyone (possibly at their house) might have been an option to include everyone. However if I didn't want to be tactful-I'd arrange another gathering at Mum and Dad's house -invite everyone and THEN tell them........and then say-Well it's what you did at OUR house ;0

I wouldn't be happy at all. Why they couldn't it be at one of the extended families homes and taken your kids to that house.
  • If you want free childcare to go away, then you can hardly dictate what your parents do whilst babysitting.

If you want to dictate to your childcare provider, then pay for childcare.
Sorry, but it is still the OP's home.

I got the impression that the problem wasn't the gathering, but the fact that they had made all the arrangements before mentioning it to the OP.
