I actually have some good news.
The problems I was having with the FTP were using the admin account, but I have now created another user account and it lets me access the files.
Many thanks for your advise, I'm not too worried about sending it off now.

Just been looking on their web!!!!! and there are some new firmware updates for my version (it's only 1 month old and is 1.24 and the latest is 1.37 :rotfl:) anyway their downloads are at http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/ if you need them. Good luck
